Body shaming lands store in trouble

When Mona Joshi walked into a popular fashion store in Mumbai, little did she know that she will subject to the worst kind of humiliation about her appearance. Mona visited Kalki Fashion in Mumbai to buy a lehenga for her friend’s wedding, and found it hard to find one in her size. Upon asking the salesperson if they had the design in a size that would fit her, she was told ‘of course not’. When she questioned him, what would people like her do, the person replied, “Go to the gym’. Shocked, she left the store, but later one of her friends, who had accompanied her decided to take up the matter with the store’s director. A number of Mona’s friends took to social media to discuss the incident. The incident has triggered a fresh round of discussion about how many women are subjected to the harrowing experience of fat shaming.
