Parenting fears and how you can conquer them

Kids cry with or without reason and that is very normal. But this incessant crying of the kids drives parents crazy. They start breeding baseless and scary imaginations trying to figure out the reasons. But if paediatricians are to believe, crying of kids is normal. The only thing is that some kids cry more than others so there is nothing to worry. The best way to overcome your fear is to calm your child down by diverting his or her attention.

We feel out of control when our children are out of our watchful eyes. From that first trip around the block on a bike to the first time they borrow the car we worry about their safety. First, we need to recognise our children are going to get hurt. They will get scrapes on the sidewalk, and bumps on the head. Next, look at what you can do to prevent unnecessary injuries. Use of bike helmets, car seats, elbow and knee pads, can reduce or eliminate the potential for life threatening harm. So, exercise precaution when possible, but don’t blame yourself for the occasional bump or bruise. Kids will be kids.

Rather than trying to shield your child from the problem teach them the skills they will need to stop bullying before it starts. Some suggestions are — demonstrate assertive behaviour in your daily activities; teach social skills; expose them to different places, people and experiences; teach them to identify acts of aggression, and discrimination; teach them to be a helpful bystander.
