The victim, Dinakaran, a resident of Thoppu Street in Chitrambakkam village, was walking past his neighbourhood when he noticed the accused Manikandan alias Kuruvi Mani beating up a man.

Dinakaran intervened and requested Mani to stop hitting him. “Infuriated by this, Mani brought four of his associates to the scene and beat up Dinakaran. He also threatened to stab him with a knife and threw a brick at his head,” police said.
