CHENNAI: A fake IAS officer who was arrested by the Avadi city police two weeks ago for conning a doctor of Rs 70 lakh by promising him a member post in National Medical Commission has used this modus operandi and has pulled off con jobs across the State, Avadi police have found.

The doctor was introduced to the accused, Sasi Kumar (41) through a police constable, who was dismissed from service.

After the incident came to light, Logesh Prabhu of Kovur filed a complaint with SRMC police on September 7 stating that he was cheated of Rs 17.5 lakh by the accused who promised his wife a job at CIPET (Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering & Technology).

The accused, Sasi Kumar is now in prison in judicial custody. Police investigations have revealed the involvement of Sasikumar in criminal cases in Salem, Erode and Namakkal districts for cheating several persons by assuring medical college seats and government jobs and swindled about Rs 2 crore rupees.

In 2017, Murugesan of Salem was cheated of several lakhs by Sasi Kumar who promised a medical college seat for his daughter. Another case is pending in Vellithirupur police station in Erode district, wherein, Sasi Kumar allegedly cheated a woman from Anthiyoor of Rs 14 lakh by assuring her a Junior Assistant post in Tamil Nadu Electricity Board in 2018.

In Bhavani police station, a case is registered against Sasi Kumar for cheating Rs 18 lakh by assuring post of AGM (assistant general manager) at Food Corporation of India by impersonating a Central Government Officer, an official with Avadi police said.

Apart from these impersonation cases, Sasi Kumar also has a forgery and trespassing case against him after he along with a gang trespassed into an agricultural land with deadly weapons.
