TIRUVALLUR: Police beefed up security at the Tiruvallur Collectorate on Monday following chaos last week wherein a family tried to self-immolate themselves over a land dispute.

Many turned up at the Tiruvallur Collectorate for grievance day meeting that was held on Monday and police personnel let them in after through check at all the four gates of the office.

Every Monday, the Tiruvallur Collectorate conducts grievance redressal day where members of public can meet Collector Alby John Varghese and submit their grievance petitions. However, last week, a family tried to self-immolate inside the Collector’s office premises alleging that the government officials and police had refused to look into a land dispute complaint that they had submitted several days ago. The incident caused a lot of commotion following which security was heightened at the meet this week.

More than 50 policemen were stationed at the four entrances of the Collectorate and all the belongings of complainants were checked before they were allowed entry.
