CoP inaugurates career advancement training centre at Arumbakkam club
City police commissioner Shankar Jiwal on Thursday inaugurated a career advancement training centre at the Arumbakkam Police Boys and Girls Club. It aims to train students from disadvantaged backgrounds to crack competitive exams and entrance exams such as NEET and JEE.
Chennai: The centre has been constructed at a cost of Rs 40.5 lakh by the city police commissionerate with Rs 27 lakh donated by the HCL Foundation. The equipment for the training centre has been bought at a cost of Rs 23 lakh which was donated by the well-wishers.
The centre would train students to crack exams like NEET, JEE, TNUSRB, TNPSC, UPSC, Railway Recruitment Board, and several recruitment exams conducted by banks. Since students of the club participate in several sports meets, a sophisticated AC bus worth Rs 60 lakh with a laptop and a TV was donated by the HCL Foundation. As many as 25 students were taken to the police museum in Egmore in the bus for a visit.
There are 112 boys and girls clubs maintained by the city police. Joint Commissioner (west) S Rajeswari was appointed as the special officer to manage the clubs in August.
Over 5,400 students including 3,626 boys and 1,826 girls have been enrolled in various clubs.
