Marimuthu of Sivaganga, came to Chennai in search of a job six months ago and thereafter started working at an eatery in Aminjikarai. When the number of COVID cases started rising again in the State, Marimuthu decided to go back to his home town. Two days ago, he informed the restaurant that he is leaving for two weeks and collected the salary for the days he worked in April.

Police sources said Marimuthu reached Tambaram to board the bus to Sivaganga but changed his mind started looking for a job in the area — Tambram, Pallavaram and Chromepet. In the past two days, Marimuthu tried many shops but nobody was ready to employ him.

Dejected, Marimuthu walked to Chromepet from Tambaram on Friday afternoon. When he reached the flyover, Marimuthu jumped from the 50-feet height near the roundabout.

The police said he directly landed on a Toyota Innova, which was heading towards Pallavaram on the GST Road. Onlookers rescued him and the Chromepet police admitted him to the Chromepet government hospital. He was later referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Police sources said the car on which Marimuthu fell belongs to Prajoth Ponnan (49) of Irumbuliyur. He is a job consultant. The Chromepet traffic investigation police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
