Upset over being scolded repeatedly for spending too much time with her phone, a 13-year-old girl left her house near Perumbakkam in Chennai on Sunday. She has been missing ever since.
Akshaya, a Class 8 student would often get scolded by her parents for being on the phone all the time. This, however, had little effect on the girl and on Saturday, her mother told her off again and refused to let Akshaya use the phone.
On Sunday, her parents found that the teen wasn't in the house and her two-wheeler was missing. They initially thought that she went out visiting friends but when the girl did not return at night, her family and friends began to look for her.
They found a letter on Akshaya's table which stated that she was tired of being scolded for no reason and was upset that her mother had asked her to die while telling her off on Saturday. It was these words that made her leave the home, she said.
Akshaya also requested her parents to donate her clothes and to not search for her because even she didn't know where she was heading to.
Her parents then filed a missing complaint at the Perumbakkam police station and the police traced Akshaya's mobile phone signal to find that she had gone to the Koyambedu bus stop and switched off her mobile phone there. At the site, the police found her two-wheeler parked in a corner of the bus stop.
CCTV footage too was of little help as most of the cameras in the area were not functional. The Perumbakkam police have now formed a special team to trace the girl.
