Govt hostel warden under DVAC scanner for swindling grant

A warden who was taking care of two government hostels for backward classes and minority students in Sivagangai district is being probed by Vigilance team after he was found receiving fund and provisions for as many as 18 students even after they left hostels in 2017-18.

The accused P Azhagu, was taking care of backward classes and minorities welfare hostel in Sivagangai and also in-charge of a hostel in Idayamelur located in the same district.

DVAC sleuths, during the investigation, found that the warden had falsified the attendance register, purchase register, daily meals note and monthly abstract note as if 50 students were staying in Idayamelur hostel and used them as genuine to misappropriate rice, dhal, milk, gas, vegetables, soap, eggs provided to the students by the government to the extent of Rs 74,840.

Further, the warden had allegedly not obtained the signature of the cooks in the daily meal issue note and forged the signature of the cooks in the register.

The accused had falsely shown the names of nine students as staying in Idayamelur hostel, from July 2016 to March 2018, even after they had obtained TC and left the school and claimed Rs 43,340.

Also, the accused officer had falsely claimed Rs 31,500 towards food and other allowances for 10 months from June 2017 to March 2018 for another nine students as if they were staying in the Idayamelur hostel.
