“Until the announcement, I looked at the shutdown as a time to learn more and grow. Once we were allowed to go back to work, it felt lighter. However, the announcement of the new restrictions has made me feel a little frustrated because we are back to square one,” said Ashaa, a resident. Personal frustrations aside, many individuals working from home have concerns on whether offices in the city would reopen soon. Many feel that the latest restrictions will not help curb the rising number of cases in the city due to lack of adhering to social distancing norms.

“I think the shutdown is a good move, as healthcare systems in the city need some time to prepare themselves for the wave of cases last week. It is also beneficial to us that we restrict our movement so that we have lesser risk of infection,” said Ramesh K, a resident of Alwarpet.

Several others, however, are pleased with the due warning for the shutdown, and could thus purchase essential items beforehand to prepare themselves until the end of the month.
