A senior official said that it was a gang war that reached the streets. The police suspect that the bike-borne attackers could belong to a gang of an advocate with a criminal background and their target was gangsters ‘Kakkathope’ Balaji and ‘CD’ Mani, as there has been a prolonged enmity between them.

The police believe that the advocate might have hatched a plan to kill both of them and sent his men. CCTV footage retrieved from other parts of Anna Salai showed that Mahesh and his accomplice another the car the gangsters were travelling in for a couple of kilometres and tried to attack them. But Balaji and Mani sensed the danger and escaped.

The police traced the bike’s registration number and found that it belongs to one Devadas. Investigation revealed that Devadas’s son, a college student, had been using the two-wheeler for the past few months. Since he was missing since the incident was reported on Tuesday, the police suspect he could also be a part of the gang.

While the police were not sure about the whereabouts of the missing car, Devadas and a few men have been detained. Five special teams were formed to crack the case and investigation officers remain tight-lipped about the developments of the case. Commissioner of Police AK Viswanathan, after inaugurating a renovated community hall at Kondithope police quarters, said that the all the suspects in the case would be nabbed soon with the help of CCTV footage.

The Teynampet police have registered a case under Sections 3 of Explosive Substances Act and 4 of Tamil Nadu Public Property Act based on a complaint by a car showroom owner K Gaffar Khan. In his complaint, Gaffar Khan stated that his car and the glass panels of the showroom were damaged in the incident.
