NSO holds conference on domestic tourism expenditure

The 78th Round regional training conference on Socio Economic Survey for field personnel of the National Statistical Office, Tamil Nadu Region, was inaugurated by S Durai Raju, Deputy Director General, NSO, on Monday.

More than 150 officials from the National Statistical Office (NSO) - Field Operational Division in Tamil Nadu and Departments of Economics and Statistics of TN and Puducherry are participating in the conference. Durai Raju, Deputy Director-General, NSO (FOD) - Tamil Nadu, spoke about highlights of the previous training conference on domestic tourism and the approaches of the surveys. “The information collected pertaining to an individual or family in the survey is kept confidential and is not revealed to anybody, including other departments. The public can also extend their cooperation by providing relevant and factual information during the survey to the visiting field officials of NSO,” said the official.


The 78th Round is earmarked for ‘domestic tourism expenditure’ and ‘multiple indicator survey’, in which all the states and union territories except Andaman and Nicobar Islands would participate. In the domestic tourism expenditure survey, important information on domestic overnight trips required for the preparation of Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) such as trip characteristics, number of persons in the trip, leading purpose, destination and visitor information will be obtained, a release said. The objectives of multiple indicator survey are to collect information on migration, construction of houses since 2014 – 2015 and also the availability of birth registration certificate. The information collected will be kept confidential and not revealed to any other department, the release added.
