Building regularisation scheme gets extension

As per a government order issued on June 21, the time limit has been extended for six more months thus increasing the scheme period to two years. The extension order came on the same day when the scheme was about to close. After the extension, the scheme will end on December 21. The scheme was rolled out on June 22, 2017.

According to an official in the housing department, there are nearly 5 lakh buildings with building rules and plan violations in the state, of which nearly 1.5 buildings are located in the Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA).

“The scheme, which is also known as 113-C scheme, has been receiving a poor response from the building owners, due to legal issues. Even though we are allowed to receive applications, we could not process the applications,” the official said.

As per the scheme, buildings owners would be allowed to rectify violations to escape lock and seal action by the government. However, the residents ought to pay regularization charges based on the size and location of the buildings.
