WhatsApp stops working for 30 minutes
It seemed like half the world came to a standstill when WhatsApp messenger stopped working. According to reports, problems were detected across India, UK, Singapore, Vietnam and Iraq.
Chennai
In India, users realised something was wrong after 2.15 pm on Friday and were unable to send messages for over half an hour. Hashtag #WhatsAppdown soon started trending on Twitter and users from different nations started sharing their woes online. Upon looking at the settings on the App, one could find the following message: “Our service is experiencing a problem right now. We are working on it and hope to restore the functionality shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
When contacted by DTNext, social media expert Sathyanarayan V said, “The internet went berserk and people were showing their concern on other platforms like Twitter and Facebook and soon whatsAppdown started trending. There has been no official statement yet but this is the third big outage the App has had this year.”
Meanwhile, in Chennai, many thought that rain was causing havoc. “I was not able to send any messages on the App and I assumed that it was a glitch because of the heavy rain on Thursday night. However, my Facebook and other Apps were working,” says Ravi Kumar, an event planner.
WhatsApp apologises for outage
WhatsApp apologised for the brief global outage, with a spokesperson saying, “Earlier on Friday, WhatsApp users globally had trouble accessing the app for about an hour. This issue has been fixed and we apologise for the inconvenience.”
