The deceased, Manojkumar, would occasionally go for fishing and was addicted to liquor, said police. Since his mother Panchamma worked as a sweeper in the MRTS station, he used to sleep in the station at night.
Around 11.30 pm on Tuesday, Manojkumar came running out of the station with his face burning. Police on patrol who noticed him rushed him to Royapettah Government Hospital for first aid.
Manojkumar reportedly told police that two men poured petrol on his face and set fire to it, though there was no trace of anyone entering in the station in the odd hours. He was later shifted to the burns ward at Kilpauk Medical College with 65 per cent injuries, where he died. Marina police have registered a case and the investigation is on to find out whether he set himself ablaze or if others were
    involved.
