    IIT-M number one in engineering category

    Several colleges from Tamil Nadu featured on the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s National Institutional Ranking Framework that was released.

    According to list, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) was ranked the second-best college in the country after Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. IIT-M was also named the best engineering college in the country. 

    Twenty-two engeneering colleges from Tamil Nadu have made it to the top 100 list, including Anna University (rank 8), Vellore Institute of Technology (13) and SRM Institute of Science and Technology (35). 

    When it comes to the ‘management’ category, six institutions have made the cut, with Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli leading from Tamil Nadu at rank 13. Anna University ranked 6 in the category ‘universities’ that included 25 institutions from the state. 

    Thirty-seven colleges from Tamil Nadu, including Loyola College that secured second place, have made it to the list of best colleges. Trichy’s Bishop Heber College (4), The Women’s Christian College (10), Coimbatore’s PSG College of Arts & Science (11) are some of the other colleges that made it on to the list. When it comes to ‘pharmacy’ category, six colleges from Tamil Nadu is on the list. 

    When the overall performances of these institutions were gauged, 21 from Tamil Nadu were among the top 100 institutes in India. To name a few, IIT-M was ranked number two, Anna University at 13, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham at 16, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University at 28 and National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli at 34.
