Woman creates flutter at Minister’s meet

The woman identified herself as Annapoorna, picked up an argument with the police and later barged into the press meet. She stated before the Minister and other media persons that four police personnel, including two women had harassed her and asked her to leave the place. It is said that the police personnel hit her with the lathi. 

Annapoorna had come from Bengaluru to the bus terminus and was waiting to switch to a local MTC to reach Saidapet. “The policemen were not rude to her, they just asked her to leave. In her complaint, she has not given any proper details or names of policemen who harassed her. Even her identification details are vague. There are 120 CCTV cameras at the bus terminus but there are no visuals of the allegations levelled by her,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police S Navaneetha Krishnan.

The police said the duel took place between 5 am and 6 am. Annapoorna is a native of Karur and is pursuing her Phd in Bengaluru.

To ensure the convenience of bus commuters during Pongal festival, Vijayabhaskar on Monday opened 26 special computerised booking counters in Koyambedu. According to the officials, plans are on to operate 11,270 special buses including regular buses from January 11, 12, and 13. Temporary bus stops have already been established in Anna Nagar West, Adyar, Tambaram Sanatorium, Poonamallee and Koyambedu. A total of 250 MTC buses will also be operated to these bus stops.
