Skill training for conservancy workers
In order to help manual scavengers find alternate jobs, the government has come forward to give them a helping hand.

Training, monetary assistance and a sensitising programme was organised on Thursday for families involved in manual scavenging. Officials said they would either be given training for an alternate job or financial assistance with 25 per cent subsidy to start business. As per the report submitted by the State government through the local bodies across the state, as many as 360 manual scavengers were identified in Tamil Nadu. Among them, 190 were from Tiruchy region that comprised of Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ariyalur and Perambalur.
Among them, Tiruchy City tops with 84 manual scavengers and Jayankondam with 36, followed by Thanjavur with 19, said Kumar Jayanth, Managing Director, TAHDCO. On Thursday, the identified manual scavengers were called and their educational qualification was enumerated by a delegation. “We will provide them skill development programme and place them in alternate jobs. Others would be provided loan with 25 per cent subsidy”, said Kumar Jayanth, MD TAHDCO. Z Mahabooba, Joint Director of Municipal Administration, N Ravichandran, Commissioner Tiruchy City Corporation and others were present.
