Panic grips Kovilpatti bank as man enters with petrol bomb

As soon as he came in, the 45-year-old man gave a small paper to a clerk. There he had mentioned that he was plagued by several personal problems and was getting little help from the government. He further demanded that the bank officials should help him. 

When the clerk asked him to approach any government office such as the Tahsildar office to submit his petition, he replied that bank personnel are also government officials and they should help to solve his problems. When they asked him to leave, he became tense and locked the bank gate with his lock.

He turned around and took out a petrol bomb and knife from his bag and threatened the bank officials. The officials who were scared out of their wits informed the Kovilpatti West police station. Immediately police personnel headed by inspector, Rajesh, rushed to the spot and held talks with the man Policemen also poured water on the floor to prevent any fire accident if the man throws the bomb inside the bank.

When inspector Rajesh tried to break the lock to open the door, the man threw the petrol bomb and attacked the inspector. The bomb which fell in the water did not explode. 

But a glass piece accidentally injured the inspector who fainted and was quickly transported in the police van to Kovilpatti GH. It was later found that the accused was one Marimuthu and a businessman. He is married and has three children. Police suspect that he might be mentally unstable but the real reason behind the incident is not known and is being investigated.
