4,000 mw per day in six years: KKNPP director

R S Sundar was addressing the 25th convocation at the Sathyabama University here on Friday. “The first unit at Kudankulam Power Plant has already been commissioned, producing electricity and unit 2 has also started generating power. We are expecting unit 3 and 4 to be ready in another six years. With the full working of all four units we will be able to produce 4,000 megawatts of electricity in another six years,” he said while speaking to reporters. He noted that the excavation work for third and fourth units at KKNP had been in progress and the first pour of concrete would commence in the next financial year. 

“So far, we have been able operate the first unit continuously for over 200 days since it was commissioned,” he added. Earlier in his convocation address, Sundar exhorted youth to come up with simple innovations, which would support the common man. “The common man needs lot of simple gadgets to make his daily life easier. You should work on this,” he said. 

Presenting the university’s annual report, Dr B Sheela Rani, vice-chancellor said that they had been conducting a feasibility study for implementing open book examination system. University directors Mariazeena Johnson and Marie Johnson have instituted the ‘Colonel Dr Jeppiaar award for excellence in research.’ The university conferred honorary doctorate on Sarat Kumar Acharya, Chairman and Managing Director of Neyveli Lignite Corporation and Ranjini Manian, manging director of Global Adjustments during the convocation.
