Providing relief to parents of 47 missing children, the Madras High Court has directed the police concerned to pay compensation within four months, after ascertaining their identity.

Chennai
A division bench comprising Justice S Nagamuthu and Justice V Bharathidasan, after perusing a government report that out of the 57 cases of missing children pending investigation, 10 families have been paid compensation, said: “In our considered view, it would be appropriate for the Superintendent of Police concerned to hold summary enquiry and ascertain as to who are the parents of the missing children and then to pay the money in equal amounts to the parents.”
Advocate General AL Somayaji appraised the bench that out of the 47 child missing cases that remained, six cases were over 7 years while 41 cases were between 1 and 7 years, and all of them were eligible for compensation.
The matter relates to an HCP by Exnora about the theft of two children and during the previous hearing, the bench had directed creation of a special squad to handle child-missing cases. The case has been posted for further hearing on August 29.
