Mega push given to TN industrial development
In a mega push to the industrial growth and development in the state that would provide job opportunities to nearly 25,000 people, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday launched seven new projects and laid the foundation stone for an equal number of projects, totally at a cost of Rs 10,054 crores

Further to the highly successful Global Investors Meet (GIM) last year that raked in investment commitments to the tune of Rs 2.42 lakh crore, Jayalalithaa inaugurated seven new projects in different parts of the state at a total cost of Rs 3,636 crore that would provide jobs to 9,775 people through video-conferencing from the Secretariat. She also laid the foundation stone for seven new projects which would come up at a total cost of Rs 6,418 crore that would create job opportunities to 14,878 people.
Interacting with heads of the companies after the function, she said, ‘’I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet you all today. I offer my congratulations to all of you and best wishes for greater and greater growth and prosperity’’. Â
Among the new projects inaugurated by Ms Jayalalithaa were Takasago International (India) Private Limited’s one hub of Flavours and Fragrances facility at Kunnapattu village in Kancheepuram district (investment Rs 61 crore), Growth Link Overseas Co Limited’s footwear expansion facility at SIPCOT Industrial Complex at Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai district (Rs 100 crore), Sun Edison’s Solar power project at Tiruchuzhi in Virudhunagar district (Rs 300 crore), Welspun’s Renewable Energy’s solar power project in Tiruchi and Karur districts (Rs 975 crore), Samsung India’s consumer goods expansion project at Sriperumbudur (Rs 450 crore), glass manufacturing unit maker Saint Gobain India’s R and D Centre at Erode and Chennai (total Rs 550 crore) and MRF’s truck and car tyres expansion unit at Perambalur (Rs 1,200 crore).Â
At the function, Jayalalithaa also inaugurated through video conferencing the multi-layer double coated board plant of two lakh MT capacity per annum at Mondipatti village in Tiruchirapalli district involving an outlay of Rs 1,650 crore. Â
She also inaugurated the expansion of the cement plant at Kagithapuram in Karur district from 600 to 900 tonnes per day at a cost of Rs 50 crore and the centre for conversion of paper and packaging board set up at Mayanur village in Karur district at an investment of Rs 30 crore set up by the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL).
