SRM to host 10 Nobel laureates at Science Congress
The city-based university will bring in 10 Nobel Prize winners when it hosts the Indian Science Congress in 2017

SRM University will host the 104th Indian Science Congress in Chennai from January 3 to 7, next year. Speaking to this newspaper, SRM University Chancellor TR Paarivendhar said, “The Indian Science Congress committee selected SRM University to host the Indian Science Congress in 2017 based on the success it had in conducting the event in 2011.
We will have 10 Nobel laureates taking part in the Congress. In 2011 too we had Nobel winners participating in the Congress.” Adding to Paarivendhar, Prof D Narayana Rao, Director (Research) at SRM University and General President Elect for the Indian Science Congress said that science & technology for national development would be the theme for the 2017 congress.
“Of the 10 Nobel laureates, mostly from the US, Europe and Japan, five have already confirmed their participation. We will have about 12,000 to 15,000 participants from India and abroad taking part in the event,” he said.
The 104th Congress will have one session each for SAARC and BRICS nations to explore the areas of interest in science & technology in which India can work with these nations.
