Slice Of Life: ‘Consistent passion towards bodybuilding won my parents’ support’

Praveen A (23), Bodybuilder

Chennai

I used to play football during my school days. Later, I developed an interest towards the sport and wanted to take part in a tournament. But I was rejected during the fitness test. After that, I started to go to gym to develop my body, though I had no intention to become a bodybuilder at that point of time. As time passed, my interest towards bodybuilding grew and I thought of giving it a try.

In the beginning, it was difficult to maintain my diet. But later, I worked hard for four years to develop my physique. I took part in Mr India in 2018 that was my first competition. I was not aware of anything then. All the other participants were aged over 25. I came among the top 10. My interactions with competitors regarding the workout and diet helped improve myself in this field. In the same year, I attended Mr Chennai and came among the top five. After that, I took a break and started to go for a bank job. But after coming to know about the Mr Chennai competition in 2019, I quit my job and started to work out for two months. I got gold medal in men physique category and bronze medal in overall. I completed my degree in game designing and started focusing on bodybuilding. But my parents were not happy about initially.

Later, as I started to participate in competitions and they found my passion towards bodybuilding, they became supportive. I am planning to attend a course on nutrition and will participate in Asia level competitions in 2020.
