Produced by Tel Ganesan’s Kyyba Films and co-produced by Brandon under his banner Kingdom Over Everything (KOE), he talks to us over a call from Detroit. “I am excited for Trap City and to have produced a film for the first time makes me feel grounded. To produce your own film is a lot of work,” he begins. Trap City, according to Brandon is a cross cultural film that will be informative to the audience. “The film is about a person who looks to add positivity to the society. We have dealt and explored with cross cultural theme. It is about people trying to learn each other’s culture through music and various other things.” Brandon plays a rapper on screen and to play a role that is an extension to his real life, he says was challenging. “I was going through what my character in the film had gone through. The frustration and the struggle to keep his family afloat and how he manages to do it with help from people were things I could relate to. The character deals with the seven deadly sins and actors tend to extract energy from the characters they play. So, I always warn actors to choose their roles wisely because I had a lot of cleansing to do after I played this character. In fact, I released my own music video Trapped In The Trap later to cleanse myself,” he adds.

The film also marks GV Prakash’s debut in Hollywood, in which he plays a surgeon. “GV, Napoleon and Tel Ganesan were slowly teaching me Tamil. I can now say ‘Vanakkam’. They also taught me about the experience of watching Tamil films and how they are similar in terms of action. The vibe is pretty much the same,” he smiles. Tel Ganesan, who moderated the conversation tells us that Brandon is also fond of South Indian food. “I don’t mind adding carbs to my diet. As you could see me I am still fit so adding calories, wouldn’t harm me,” he concludes.
