“India spends Rs 7 lakh crores on the import of fuel, particularly crude oil, and at the same time, we are facing massive pollution problems. Hence, this is good news for all of us that our industry is looking at vehicles that run on alternate fuel and are made indigenously. It’s important to ‘Make in India’,” Gadkari said, at the launch event of TVS Motor Company, here.

He added the government is considering turning the highways into e-highways and has been in talks with countries like Germany, USA and Sweden, who have the technology. “We want to bring in 10,000 e-buses this year. We will also put up charging points for electronic vehicles on highways near petrol pumps,” Gadkari said.
