The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation monitors infra projects worth Rs 150 cr and above. Of such 1,635 projects, 377 projects reported cost overruns and 565 projects time escalation. “Total original cost of implementation of the 1635 projects was Rs 19,47,462.67 cr and their anticipated completion cost is likely to be Rs 23,41,784.84 cr, which reflects overall cost overruns of Rs 3,94,322.17 cr (20.25 pc of original cost),” the ministry’s latest report said.
