The film challenges audiences to confront their own prejudices, making for an experience that is thought-provoking. The film follows childhood friends Karthi (Rishikanth) and Subbu (Sananth), growing up in a village where masculinity is measured through violence, dominance and the ability to suppress emotions. While Karthi is initially timid and easily frightened, Subbu is fearless, teaching his friend to fight and stand up for himself, often drawing inspiration from Bruce Lee, an icon for many children of the 80s and 90s.

Ironically, as they grow older, their personalities undergo a striking reversal. Karthi becomes rowdy, while Subbu finds himself struggling with his identity and emotions.

The film's village setting becomes an integral part of its storytelling. The casual objectification of women and the recurring assertion that crying is a feminine weakness expose how deeply toxic masculinity is embedded across generations. The question raised by Karthi's mother, questioning whether crying is exclusively a woman's trait, becomes particularly significant.

Rishikanth, who has been gaining attention with Modha Rathiri, makes an impression as Karthi. He convincingly moves from the frightened boy we see in his childhood to a man shaped by violence and the very “masculinity" he once seemed distant from.

Karthik Subbaraj’s writing repeatedly questions the conditioning of men. The casual “Why are you crying like a woman?” attitude passes from older men to younger men and even children. Karthi’s line to Subbu, “Evana venum nalum adi, thooki potu kollu, ana dheiva senju azhatha da,” becomes another reflection of how crying is treated as weakness when associated with femininity. Against this is Karthi’s mother questioning why crying should belong only to women.

Through Subbu's gender transition, Karthik Subbaraj explores transgender identity, societal taboos and the misinformation surrounding transition in that era. A particularly striking encounter between Karthi and a transgender woman, played by Jeeva Subramanian, carries the film’s message forward. Having earlier faced mistreatment from Karthi, she tells him, “Innum 10 varshathula nanga tha normal, intha ooru ungala kevalama pakkum.” It is a powerful reminder of how society's idea of normalcy can change. Karthik Subbaraj handles these themes with remarkable audacity, refusing to soften the realities of prejudice and discrimination.

The cinematography is another major strength, with striking visuals lending weight to the film's raw storytelling. Ilaiyaraaja's music and background score elevate the narrative, particularly during the moments when Karthi and Subbu reunite. The placement of Muthumani and the brief use of his classic songs add to the nostalgic atmosphere, transporting the audience back to the era.

Keerthy Suresh, as Dorothy, Subbu’s brother’s wife, appears for a limited period but leaves an impression. Initially viewed through the objectifying description of a “doll”, Dorothy gradually reveals warmth and compassion. Keerthy handles the role with tenderness, although the character could have benefited from more screen time. She is an angel who disappears too soon.

Sananth, however, emerges as one of the film’s biggest surprises. His performance before the interval establishes Subbu as the confident friend from childhood, making the later revelation about her identity more affecting. The transition into the post-interval portions could have been more intense, as the film moves into that crucial phase rather abruptly. Still, Sananth carries Subbu’s vulnerability through her body language, expressions and feminine energy. He makes the internal conflict visible without relying only on dialogue.

The relationship between Karthi and Subbu ultimately becomes the film’s emotional centre. Karthi is caught between rejecting, protecting and accepting the person his childhood friend has become, while slowly confronting feelings that transcend the gendered boundaries he has been taught to follow.

Dorothy may not be a comfortable watch for everyone, but Karthik Subbaraj deserves credit for confronting toxic masculinity, transgender prejudice and society’s obsession with defining what is normal.

The production house announced the project on Friday and revealed that shooting has already begun.

The makers also shared a poster featuring a car surrounded by goons, along with the line, “The more they came, the bigger he looked.”

The film is produced by Sendhil Thyagarajan and Arjun Thyagarajan.

The film stars SJ Suryah, Preity Mukundhan, Vijay B Kumar and Vadivelu alongside Dhanush.

Sai Abhyankkar is composing the music. Interestingly, the composer is also scoring music for Om, another upcoming Tamil film.

The makers are yet to announce more details about the supporting cast and technical crew. D56 is scheduled to hit screens in summer 2027.

The film is backed by Naga Vamsi and Haritha Lingusamy under the banners of Sithara Entertainment and Primark Productions.

Paradise is an area controlled by Shikanja Malik (Mohan Babu), where the Savari tribe has been enslaved for generations. Even years after independence, the community remains without an identity of its own and is excluded from the census. Once officially counted, they would have to be recognised as citizens and granted voting rights, potentially challenging the control over them.

Shikanja eventually hands over the reins to his son, Vikram Malik (Raghav Juyal), who aspires to enter politics despite already controlling Paradise. The film draws an interesting parallel between a community fighting for recognition and individuals seeking political power.

Samakka (Sonali Kulkarni) leads the tribe’s fight for identity and recognition. Her son Sadaiyan (Nani) returns from prison with a different priority. While Samakka wants to fight for their identity, Sadaiyan argues that people cannot fight on an empty stomach. His belief that food must come before everything else adds an interesting conflict between survival and recognition. He eventually joins his mother’s fight.

The story, however, becomes predictable within the first few minutes, leaving us waiting for events that are easy to anticipate. The film also keeps introducing characters and backstories, with several supporting characters appearing briefly without making much impact.

The first half does have intriguing moments, particularly in the way Paradise is established. The predominantly black-and-brown palette gives the fictional area a distinct appearance, while the detailing of the Savari tribe, including their jewellery, tattoos and traditional elements, helps create a community with its own identity. The camera work complements the setting and delivers some striking frames.

A brief backstory explaining Sadaiyan’s long hair and braids, linked to a tragic incident from his childhood, adds some context to his character. Nani’s introduction after his release from prison, particularly the accompanying action sequence, is another highlight.

However, the portions involving Subbu (Kayadu Lohar) do not blend naturally into the narrative. Her track feels disconnected, while the chemistry between her and Sadaiyan is not convincing enough. Vikram Malik’s character also fails to create the menace expected of the antagonist. His appearance and performance often evoke laughter rather than fear.

The editing could have been tighter too. Several scenes end abruptly, while the chapter-based structure sometimes makes the film feel like a series of disconnected portions.

Anirudh’s music, which comes with considerable expectations, is another disappointment. While the score works in parts, particularly around the antagonist and the interval block, it is largely functional rather than memorable.

The second half is where The Paradise loses its grip. The narrative becomes increasingly lengthy, with loud dialogue and relentless violence. Blood, severed heads and limbs are shown repeatedly, taking the brutality beyond what feels necessary for the story. The violence often becomes distracting rather than impactful.

The story’s trajectory is also clear early on: Sadaiyan will take up his mother’s fight, rise against the oppressors and fight for his people. There are few surprises along the way to sustain interest. Towards the end, the appearance of real-life Telangana Chief Ministers, along with actual footage and photographs, attempts to connect the fictional story with real events. However, these images feel somewhat disconnected after the film’s heavily fictionalised treatment.

Visually, The Paradise has a distinct identity, with its production design, setting and cinematography helping create its world. But predictable writing, uneven editing, underdeveloped characters, a lengthy second half and excessive violence prevent the film from making the emotional impact its subject demands.

Written and directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, the film, which is being tentatively referred to as #D56, brings together an exciting combination of acclaimed performers and emerging talents. Dhanush leads the ensemble, with Vadivelu and SJ Suryah joining him in prominent roles.

The cast will also feature actors Vijay B Kumar and Preity Mukundhan, who will be seen playing pivotal parts in the film. What has added to the excitement of fans is the fact that the film will have music by Sai Abhyankkar who will be collaborating with Dhanush for the second consecutive time after 'Om'.

The film is being jointly produced by Sithara Entertainments, Srikara Studios and Primark Productions, bringing together three prominent production banners for this ambitious venture. The makers announced the launch of the film with a poster that further amplified the mystery surrounding the film. Featuring an imposing traditional doorway covered with numerous bells, the poster carriesd a distinct visual identity and introduced Dhanush with an intriguing character design, while keeping several aspects of the film under wraps.

The visual, coupled with the announcement “Paari Vettaikku Pandakaal Nattachu”, has added another to the mystery surrounding the project. Sources close to the unit say that further updates regarding the supporting cast and technicians will be officially announced soon. The film is slated to arrive in theatres in summer 2027.

For the unaware, Tamizharasan Pachamuthu had, in March this year, announced that he had begun the recce for the film.

Taking to his X timeline, the director had posted a monochrome picture of himself seated in a temple and wrote in Tamil," Kelambiyaachu (Have started) #Recce #D56." Tamizharasan Pachamuthu is best known for his critically acclaimed superhit film 'Lubber Pandhu', which featured Harish Kalyan, Attakathi Dinesh, Swaswika and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy in the lead.

Taking to his social media timelines to pen his thoughts on the film, just hours before its release, he wrote, "It's #DorothyDay and though it's my 10th film, am as excited and nervous as I was on the day of release of my first film 'Pizza'."

Pointing out that the film had made a considerable impact on him, Karthik Subbaraj disclosed, "The days I have spent making this film have changed me as a person, as a filmmaker, as an artiste, as a human. This film is the most close to reality film I have made and it's the most emotional story I have told so far."

He further said, "This story is based on lot of real incidents from the 90s and when I felt the need to tell this story out in the mainstream, there was just one question that was asked often to me by many.... On what belief you want to make this film? My answer was and is 'My belief on the AUDIENCE' (sic)."

"And yeah the day has come where we, the team of #Dorothy is eagerly ready to show the film to the audience, like how a kid shows its first painting to parents... and yeah...DOROTHY is all yours now.... Give a little space to her and she will touch your hearts for sure," he claimed.

"Please do watch our film in theatres and I promise it will be worth it," he said and added, "I request you to avoid listening or reading any spoilers before watching the film. It will be an experience worth experiencing. Also please do not give away any spoilers, post any clips of the film so that others also feel what you felt, in the same way."

Taking to his X timeline to shower praises on the film, Dhanush wrote, "Dorothy - a masterpiece from @karthiksubbaraj."

He went on to say, "Bold and poignant. Raw and intense. Every actor has performed brilliantly. Our maestro ilayaraja sir’s background score will blow your mind away. Rudhrathandavam from Isaignani. Best wishes to my dear friend Karthick Subbaraj and the entire team on the release tom. God bless."

It may be recalled that the Original Sound Tracks (OSTs) of the film were released, even before the film's release.

Interestingly, the makers also held a concert called the Dorothy concert in which the OSTs of the film were presented by a live orchestra.

For the unaware, 'Dorothy', apart from Keerthy Suresh, also features actors Sananth and Rishikanth in the lead. The film, which has been written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, has music by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja.

The film, the story of which is set in the nineties, has cinematography by S Thirunavukkarasu and editing by Ganesh Siva. Stunts in the film have been choreographed by Dinesh Subbarayan while dances in the film have been choreographed by Sherif M. Costumes in the film have been designed by Praveen Raja.

The film has been produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, and presented by Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment. The film is produced by Sikhya Entertainment and Dhammam Films.

S. Thirunavukkarasu is the Director of Photography, Ganesh Siva is the Editor, and Pavan Narendra serves as Executive Producer, with additional screenplay by Saravanan Chandran.

The film, which has just hit screens worldwide, had its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the Centrepiece section. Interestingly, the film received a standing ovation from the audience at its premiere.

The poster features Ranbir in a rugged look, with a blood-stained sleeve and a bullet mark visible on his shirt.

The actor is seen sporting a serious expression, with the caption stating,, “Woh rutba, woh raub, woh junoon!Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War on 21st January 2027 See you at the movies! #LoveAndWar @saregama_official #RanbirKapoor @vickykaushal09 @aliaabhatt.”

Love & War will release worldwide in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The unveiling comes after the film recently completed its shoot.

The project, which stars Ranbir alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, has now moved into the post-production stage ahead of its January 2027 theatrical release.

Love & War was initially announced for a Christmas 2025 release. Its release was subsequently pushed, with March 20, 2026 being the earlier announced date before the makers confirmed January 21, 2027 as the new release date.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Love & War brings Ranbir, Alia and Vicky together in the lead roles. The film is described as an epic romantic drama set against the backdrop of war.

Reports indicate that Ranbir and Vicky play Air Force officers whose lives become intertwined with Alia’s character. However, the makers have kept much of the storyline and character details under wraps, as of yet.

The film marks Ranbir’s reunion with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after the actor made his Bollywood debut with the filmmaker’s Saawariya in 2007.

Alia previously worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Gangubai Kathiawadi, while Love & War marks Vicky’s first collaboration with the director.

The film, the shooting of which was wrapped up on June 10 last year, has triggered huge expectations among fans and film buffs.

Taking to his X timeline to put out the update, Vishnu Vishal, on June 10 last year had said,"Last day of #IranduVaanam... 150th day of shoot...It's been a journey that you also will get to feel on the big screen soon.... @dir_ramkumar has cooked something unique and interesting again...Thank you @SathyaJyothi."

The film has raised huge expectations as director Ramkumar is joining hands with Vishnu Vishal for the third film after delivering two superhits in 'Mundasupatti' and 'Ratsasan'.

Well known production house, Sathya Jyothi films is producing this film. It may be recalled that the first look poster of the film, which was released a few months ago, was quite unique.

The first look poster had two parts to it, both connected by a sky. On one side of the sky, Vishnu Vishal was seen seated on a cloud. Likewise, Mamitha Baiju appeared to be seated on a cloud but in the opposite direction.

The title ‘Irandu Vaanam’ means ‘Two Skies’. It is hard to guess what the film is about except for the fact that the lead characters are from two identical worlds that need not necessarily be the same.

While the film has music by Dhibu Ninan Thomas, cinematography for the film is by Dinesh K Babu. San Lokesh is in-charge of editing the film, which has art direction by Gopi Anand. Stunts for the film have been choreographed by Vicky while costumes are by Keerthivasan.

Dances for the film have been choreographed by Leelavathi and VFX has been handled by Harihara Suthen of Lorven Studios.

The film has been produced by Sendhil Thyagarajan and Arjun Thyagarajan and co-produced by G Saravanan and Sai Siddharth.

The makers announced the release date with a new poster and a ‘Gujilimasthu’ video, which features glimpses of romance, college life, action and celebrations, along with the song ‘Araajagam Pathala Pathala’. The film is positioned as a youthful comedy entertainer and has been predominantly shot in Chennai and Hogenakkal.

John Vijay, Sathyan, Jaffer Sadiq, Nobel K. James, Arunachaleswaran PA, Shareek Hassan and Aishwarya Sharma are also part of the cast. Leon Britto is the cinematographer, with music by Jen Martin and editing by Bharath Vikraman. Post-production work is currently underway.

Audible, a leading provider of spoken word entertainment, on Thursday announced "Odysseus Rising", a new original sci-fi adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey", written by acclaimed novelist Adrian Tchaikovsky and narrated by "Lord of the Rings" and "Planet of the Apes" star Andy Serkis.

The project has been in development since late 2024, bringing together two of science fiction's most prestigious voices for this epic retelling, the audio platform said.

Odysseus was the subject of Nolan's latest hit where Matt Damon stepped up to play the battle-weary warrior. First movie to be shot entirely on IMAX cameras, the film turned out to be a box office behemoth by earning UD 1.68 billion at the box office. It also became one of the most debated movies in Nolan's career.

The Audible's take on the epic story by "Children of Time" author blends storytelling with groundbreaking sound design featuring Dolby Atmos to deliver an interstellar retelling of Homer’s epic tale, a release stated here.

"Taking on a project like this was a real challenge, working with the spirit of the original and exploring the concepts of gods, monsters and the great journey through the science-fiction tradition. Following in Odysseus’s footsteps and taking his travels into the realms of space and time, was a real privilege and I’m over the moon to be working with Andy Serkis on the project,” Tchaikovsky said.

Serkis, praised Tchaikovsky’s re-imagining of “The Odyssey” as “a staggering act of ingenuity”.

“Transporting this ancient story into the distant future gives it new life and meaning. As an actor, having the opportunity to voice both Homer and Adrian’s creations is immensely rewarding and recording in tandem with Audible’s cutting-edge production is a dream come true. Listeners are in for a blockbuster treat,” the actor-filmmaker said.

As per the official synopsis, the new “The Odyssey” is set after a decade of war in Ilium, which is now a ruined world of ashes.

“The Ithaca, a ship besieged by oligarchs and parasites, resolutely awaits the return of their Captain. Carrying the weight of duty and the dead, Odysseus begins the long journey home, flying in the face of the Gods. But the Gods will not be defied. If Odysseus is doomed to never reach the safe harbour of his people, he must find a way to bring the Ithaca to him. And so, his real journey begins, not through space, but deep into time itself.

“Odysseus Rising”, an Audible Original, will be available exclusively on Audible from February 25, 2027.

Producer Suresh Kamatchi, whose production house V House Productions is producing the film, took to his social media timelines to share the newly released trailer's link.

The trailer begins with Soori, who is travelling in a train calling a friend and speaking to him over phone. He says, "As soon as I reach the next station, I have to go to the first reserved compartment." When the friend asks him what had happened, Soori replies that he has seen someone who looks strange and that he is even scared to look at him.

The trailer then shows a conversation between Nivin Pauly and Soori. Nivin Pauly's character asks Soori, "How old are you?" To this, Soori says, "I'm 32 years old, sir." Nivin Pauly then replies, "I'm 8,822 years old."

The trailer then shows Nivin Pauly's character several hundred years ago. A conversation between a woman and a child is then heard. The woman is heard saying, "When 50 to 60 years of memories itself can burden a human, imagine how a man who has lived for 8000 years will feel."

The trailer also shows that the film has quite a generous dose of humour added to it. The closing sequence of the trailer shows Soori challenging Nivin Pauly to a duel. He says, "Come on. Let's see who wins." Eventually, Nivin Pauly gets the better of him. Soon after, Nivin Pauly asks him, "Where were you in 1441?" "Which 1441, sir?," replies Soori. Nivin Pauly then rephrases, "In the year 1441." To this, Soori asks, "Is it 1441 BC or 1441 AD?'

Another funny conversation is heard. With a person asking Soori in a threatening tone, "Were you or were you not there in the Amazon forests?" Soori replies, "Sir, I haven't even ordered anything from Amazon."

The film, which has been waiting to hit screens for quite some time now, is to finally hit screens on October 1 this year.

For the unaware, one of Tamil cinema's most respected directors, Ram, started work on this film in Rameshwaram's Dhanushkodi in 2021 and completed shooting in April 2022. From then, the film has been awaiting a release date.

The film has visuals by cinematographer Ekhambharam and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The filmmakers launched a New Zealand-wide casting call, where the film was being shot, to find the noble canine who is the heart of the film.

Animal trainer Andrew Simpson, who worked on Heart of the Beast, searched too. He ultimately selected four dogs to play Odin.The dogs had to be prepared for a film packed with action, challenging locations and demanding sequences alongside Brad Pitt.

“All of these dogs had been sitting on somebody’s couch watching TV and eating treats when we found them,” says Simpson.

“We spent the first week of the five we trained them just getting to know them and understand their quirks. This movie is action from beginning to end, and every scene had its own challenges for us. Luckily, David (Ayer, director) was open to understanding how to get the best out of the animals.”

When shooting began, Uber, a majestic, German Shepherd, emerged as the principal dog playing Odin.

After serving as a police dog, Uber transitioned into search and rescue. Following the passing of his partner, he was put out to pasture until Simpson discovered him and recognised the experience he could bring to the film.

Simpson said: “He’s used to being in helicopters, boats, trucks. You name it; he’s done it. And he has the Brad Pitt face of dogs, so he’s the dog we used most often for closeups.”

Uber became so central to the project that the filmmakers made him number one on the daily call sheet, a position normally reserved for an actor of Pitt’s stature.

“He was really good when we were hiking through the woods and through the forest,” said Pitt.

Pitt added: “When Andrew discovered Uber visiting the North Island, his trainer was overjoyed. Her exact words were, ‘I knew he had another life in him.’”

The film's other three dogs are all his sons littermates Ryker and Zika, along with their younger half-brother Hondo.

The Russo Brothers, who grew up as comic book fans in Cleveland, Ohio, took to Instagram, where they shared a glimpse from the screening at a theatre. They said the experience brought back memories of their childhood dream of telling stories that could excite and inspire audiences.

Taking to the caption section, the Russo Brothers wrote: “The most emotional night of our careers was sneaking into theaters on opening night of Avengers Endgame. We stood in the back and watched a thousand strangers react the gasps, the cheers, the tears. We got chills.”

“And may have shed a tear or two ourselves. It was a magical experience in a movie theater. And it was a magical experience for two Comic Book fans from Cleveland, Ohio, who as kids dreamed of telling stories that made people leap out of their seats with excitement. Stories that inspired them. And fired their imaginations.”

The brothers said that there’s a generation that only ever saw this movie in their living room.

“Just so you know, we’ll be sneaking into theaters again for Avengers Endgame: Encore. There’s a generation that only ever saw this movie in their living room. And we want to hear what it sounds like when they finally get to see it in a theater.”

Avengers: Infinity War released in 2018. In the film, the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy attempt to stop Thanos from collecting the six powerful Infinity Stones as part of his quest to kill half of all life in the universe.

A year later came Avengers: Endgame. In the film, the surviving members of the Avengers and their allies attempt to reverse Thanos's actions in Infinity War, which erased half of all life in the universe.

The “Avengers: Endgame Encore” releases in theaters on September 25, 2026, featuring new footage and an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday.

On Wednesday (September 23), the actor took to his X, formerly Twitter, and shared the update with his followers. He said that he has pushed the release of the film in order to avoid the clash with ‘Jailer 2’, which features Tamil cinema legend Rajinikanth.

He wrote, “In times like these, shifting the release of a film comes with its own set of challenges. Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, the man whom we have all admired and worshipped over the years has his film arriving on October 15, just a day before ours.

Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date. At the same time, we will not be arriving for Diwali this year either, as Suriya sir's film has already been announced for the same date”.

He further mentioned, “In all fairness, they announced their date first, and we strongly believe that big films should have a mutual understanding and respect each other's decisions, keeping the larger welfare of cinema and the industry in mind. We will announce our new release date very soon”.

Dhanush was earlier married to Aishwarya Rajinikanth, the daughter of the Tamil cinema legend. So, shifting the release date of his film is not just a unidimensional professional decision.

Meanwhile, ‘Jailer 2’ is the sequel to the 2024 release ‘Jailer’ which starred Rajinikanth in the titular role of a retired jailer, who fights the organised syndicate of artifact smugglers. Rajini’s character activates his own criminal network across India which he built on his goodwill and absolutely watertight morals as a jailer.

Produced by SS Lalith Kumar under Seven Screen Studio, the film has LK Vishnu Kumar as co-producer. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Chethan are also part of the cast.

The pooja ceremony was attended by several members of the Tamil film industry, including directors H Vinoth, Siruthai Siva, RS Durai Senthilkumar, Suresh Rajakumari and Vignesh Vadivel, as well as producers RK Selvamani, T Siva, G Dhananjayan, Five Star Senthil, Five Star Kalyan, Arun Vishwa, Sabari and Vijay. Cinematographer Arthur Wilson also attended the event.

The film will be shot in Chennai, Kodaikanal and Kolkata.

LK Akshay Kumar’s new film: Cast and crew

The film is directed by debutant Vishnu Amaran, who has previously worked as an assistant director to H Vinoth. He has been associated with films including Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017), Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), Valimai (2022) and Jana Nayagan (2026).

Saravanan Ramasamy is handling the cinematography, while Hesham Abdul Wahab is composing the music.

Kalaivanan is the editor, R is overseeing costume design and PS Hariharan is handling the art direction. Ambani (ADFX) is supervising the promotional design and Action Santhosh is choreographing the action sequences.

Manikandan is the executive producer and Arun K is the creative producer.

The announcement comes shortly after the film’s preview event, which was held on Monday (September 21). The event was attended by the film’s cast and crew, including Ashok Selvan, Preity Mukhundhan, debutant director R Karthikeyan and producers.

Anbil Avan makers explain the delay

Explaining the delay, the makers said that Anbil Avan was made over nearly two years with a great deal of love and dedication. They added that the additional week would help them ensure that the film gets the grand release it deserves.

“The extra week is necessary to ensure that the film reaches you with the grandeur and grand release it deserves,” the team said in its statement, while seeking the audience’s continued love and support.

Anbil Avan is billed to be an action-romance film. The film's official synopsis reads thus: Suriya and Iyal move to a quiet hill town in search of a fresh start, only to find themselves trapped in a dangerous world that threatens their love, their future, and their very survival.

Debutant R Kaarthikeyan, who wrote the screenplay along with Vignesh Raja and Ashok Selvan, has directed the film. Anbil Avan marks his debut as a filmmaker.

Ashok Selvan and Preity Mukhundhan are the leads while Sabumon Abdusamad, Kadirbalu and Maha Delhi Ganesh, among others, play supporting roles.

Govind Vasantha has composed the music for the film, which is produced by K Karunamoorthy, Ashok Selvan, and Abinaya Selvam under the banners of Ayngaran International and Happy High Pictures.

The film has also been in the spotlight for an action sequence featuring Ashok Selvan. In one of the scenes, the actor reportedly performed a 70-foot jump without using a body double, adding to anticipation surrounding the film.

With the postponement, Anbil Avan is now set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 2, 2026.

The stamp features a portrait of the musician along with details of his career.

In a post on X, Ilaiyaraaja thanked Australian Finance Minister Enver Erdogan MP and members of the Victorian government for the honour, calling it a deeply moving moment. He also shared a video where he can be seen thanking the country's government officials for the honour.

"Being born in a small village in Tamil Nadu and being honoured in the Australian Parliament is a truly moving experience," Ilayaraja wrote. He also expressed gratitude to the artists who have worked with him over the years and to generations of fans who have embraced his music.

The honour comes as Ilaiyaraaja completes 50 years in Tamil cinema this year. He made his debut as a music composer with the 1976 film Annakkili. Over the course of his career, he has composed music across multiple languages and scored for more than 1,500 films.

In September last year, the Tamil Nadu government felicitated the composer at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai to mark his 50 years in cinema.

Recently, Ilaiyaraaja was also in the news after the Film Federation of India announced the Marathi thriller Gondhal, for which he composed the music, as India’s official entry for next year’s Oscars in the International Feature Film category.

Meanwhile, Ilaiyaraaja has composed the original soundtrack (OST) for Dorothy, which is set to release on the 25th. The album was released ahead of the film's theatrical release, and has received a tremendous response.

Speaking at the event, Rishikanth thanked Karthik Subbaraj for bringing together a team that gave him the confidence to pursue cinema. Recalling his preparation for Dorothy, he said he and Sananth were sent to Madurai for two months, where they underwent training and script-reading sessions.

“We were trained like in Jigarthanda, which didn’t go well,” he said with a laugh, adding that Karthik took them through the script and helped them prepare for their characters.

Rishikanth also spoke about his 15-year friendship with Sananth and their shared struggles to find opportunities in cinema. The two would often joke about becoming heroes and acting in each other’s films. “But that has become a reality today,” he said.

He revealed that Dorothy was technically his first film, as he began shooting Modha Rathiri only after completing this project. He credited Karthik with preparing him thoroughly before putting him in front of the camera.

Sananth said screening the film at TIFF had been a special experience even before its theatrical release. Recalling how people approached him and hugged him after watching the film, he said the response had made the experience memorable.

“It is destiny that Rishi and I had to come together for Dorothy. This is a very special film for everybody,” he said. Sananth also recalled that his short film Madhu and Rishikanth’s Puzhu were part of Karthik Subbaraj’s Bench Talkies 12 years ago. Working together under Karthik’s direction now, he added, felt like a full circle.

Keerthi Suresh said she immediately agreed to be part of the film after Karthik sent her the synopsis and asked if she was interested. “Dorothy means ‘gift of God’, and this movie is exactly that,” she said.

She also praised Rishikanth and Sananth’s performances, saying the three had become friends during the making of the film. “When the movie releases, I’ll be whistling for them,” she added. Keerthi expressed confidence that Dorothy would make Tamil cinema proud both in India and internationally. She also said the film would spark discussions and bring about changes.

For Karthik Subbaraj, one of the biggest achievements of Dorothy was getting music maestro Ilaiyaraaja to compose its music. Recalling the 25 days he spent sitting beside the composer during the music sessions, the director described the experience as a special one.

He also expressed confidence in Rishikanth and Sananth, saying the two actors would go on to become big stars. “For all the talent they have and the struggles they have gone through, they will be rocking the Indian film industry very soon,” he said.

Karthik said it had been his dream to premiere the film internationally and subsequently release it in theatres in India. He clarified that the version screened at TIFF is exactly the same as the theatrical version, with not even a single frame altered.

Addressing whether Tamil audiences would accept the film, Karthik said he had written the script keeping them in mind and had complete faith in them.

“I am looking forward to screening the film for Tamil audiences on September 25. I am very eager to show it to everyone, and I am sure everyone will enjoy it,” he said. He also urged audiences not to reveal spoilers, saying he wanted everyone to experience the film for themselves in theatres.

Radha has alleged that her sister, actress Ambika, and their brother, Mallikarjuna Kunjan Nair, stole signed blank cheques from her residence to unlawfully encash nearly Rs 46 crore.

Addressing the media following the complaint, Ambika categorically denied the charges and said there was "no truth" in Radha’s complaint besides expressing distress over the family matter reaching the police.

She hit back at the allegations, saying, “Gold is Radha’s weakness,” and claimed that Radha has a lot of her gold.

She also said Radha had given her three cheques for the money she owed her, while questioning the allegations surrounding the signed cheques.

Ambika said the amount mentioned in Radha’s complaint had increased from Rs 43 crore to Rs 46 crore.

She said it was true that Radha had given her a cheque and that the cheque was later stopped, but questioned why Radha had not stated the reason for stopping it.

When Elizabeth Debicki’s character asks him about his years working with television star Rick Dalton, Cliff offers a typically blunt explanation for their professional split: Dalton had become too heavy for him to double. The film marks Brad's return to the role that earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The cast also includes Peter Weller, Holt McCallany, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth willr release worldwide from November 25, before arriving on Netflix on December 23.

Several speakers praised Abinaya Selvam of Happy High Pictures for her dedication to the project. Director Vignesh Raja, known for Por Thozhil, has penned the story.

Stunt choreographer Peter Hein delivered an emotional speech, saying Anbil Avan was a deeply personal project for him. He revealed that he had set aside 17 other projects to work on the film and invested considerable effort in its action sequences.

Adding a lighter touch, Peter Hein referred to social media reels in which women list their expectations for a prospective husband, including being six feet tall and earning lakhs of rupees. He joked that after watching Anbil Avan, their expectations would change and they would instead want a man like Ashok Selvan’s character. Music composer Govind Vasantha added to the evening with a live violin performance.

Ashok Selvan, who spoke towards the end of the event, became emotional while speaking about the sacrifices he had made to bring the film to life.

He revealed that he had pledged his father’s property to fund the project, as its script and demanding action sequences required a substantial investment. He also thanked his parents for believing in him and supporting his work

The actor then made a promise to the audience, saying that while he had taken up films for money in the past, he wanted to approach his work differently from now on. He assured them that whenever his face appears on a film poster, they can be certain that he has given the project 100 per cent.

Recently, superstar Salman Khan also criticised the trolling directed at Kaif, who welcomed a baby boy with husband Vicky Kaushal in November last year.

Asked about the intense scrutiny that female actors are subjected to for their appearance, Parineeti said she finds such comments "absolutely uneducated".

"When somebody comments on a postpartum body, I find it uneducated. Like, you get a haircut, your hair is going to be shorter. You go for a vacation, you are going to come back with a tan. You are going to the gym, so you are going to make abs. There is going to be evidence of what you did on your body and all that is celebrated," Chopra told PTI in an interview.

"But making a human life, a baby, that evidence on the body is not celebrated. How is it negative? I would look at a woman and say, ‘Oh my god, I see a stretch mark. Did you grow a baby? That's so amazing. How is your baby?’ That's how I would look at it,” she added.

Parineeti, who gave birth to a son in October last year, said she avoids social media to stay away from all the negativity.

"Since, I don't spend much time on social media, I don't get to read about any kind of trolling. I don't even know the trolling that is happening around me or around people. I actually don't know most of it because that's how insignificant I feel it is. It's really a waste of time,” she said, adding she usually refrains from discussing other people's bodies and lives.

The actor, who is set to make a comeback to acting with the upcoming Netflix series "Shaque", questioned whether those indulging in it were “seeking attention” or trying to “build a career on social media”. She said there is no such discrimination for mothers in the film industry.

Parineeti said that she was pregnant while filming for the project and thanked the makers for their complete support and professionalism.

“I’m in rooms every single day where I’ve never been asked about my motherhood or my looks or anything. I speak about the work that is being offered to me, and it's being offered to me, knowing who I am or what my talent or ability is. And that conversation is about what I’ll bring to the role, what I’ll do in the film, and whether I’ll be able to do it or not,” she said.

“So, you are being cast for who you are, what you look like and the talent that you bring to the table, nothing else. I think it is more the media and the outsiders who talk about it much more. Actually, the industry doesn't do so much of it,” she added.

Actor Soni Razdan, who stars alongside Parineeti in “Shaque…”, questioned such trolling in a civilised society.

"I saw a post about Sarah Jessica Parker from ‘Sex and the City’, with lines (under her eyes), grey hair here, looking absolutely gorgeous. She said, ‘Am I not supposed to grow old?' So, what is this society we are living in?’,” Razdan said.

“That starts to question, point fingers at or make fun of women, mainly women, right, who have had a baby or who are aging or who are not looking the way they did when they were 25, now they are 45 and they don't look the same. There is such a thing as aging, growing old, having a baby, and all kinds of things,” she added.

“Shaque: Trust No One”, a psychological thriller series, will make its debut on Netflix on September 24.

Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the 2010 romantic drama was re-released at the PVR multiplex in Chennai's VR Mall, in 2021. The film has continued to be screened at the theatre since then, including special screenings around Valentine's Day.

It is also reported to be the first Indian film to cross 1,500 days in a re-release.

Now, having crossed 1,700 days since its re-release, the film is successfully marching towards the five-year milestone.

‘Om’ release may be pushed

The reported change is linked to the release of ‘Jailer 2’, which is slated to arrive in theatres on October 15. With the two big-ticket films set to release within a day of each other, reports suggest that the makers of ‘Om’ are looking at alternative dates.

November 27 and December 2 are reportedly among the dates being considered. However, there has been no official confirmation from the ‘Om’ team regarding a postponement.

‘Jailer 2’ cast, crew and production details

‘Jailer 2’ is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner. Rajinikanth leads the cast, with Vidya Balan, S J Suryah and Suraj Venjaramoodu also part of the film.

Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for the sequel, which is scheduled for theatrical release on October 15.

On the occasion of director Atlee’s birthday on Monday (September 21), the film crew shared a scene from the film that was filmed with 37 actors simultaneously using live motion-capture technology, setting a Guinness World Record.

Sun Pictures, the film’s production house, announced the achievement in a post on X, saying, “A global triumph in motion capture! #Raaka sets a Guinness World Record for the ‘Most People Motion-Captured in Real-Time’, with 37 performers captured simultaneously.”

The motion-capture exercise involved 37 performers ranging from a four-year-old child to a 70-year-old, who were captured simultaneously during a single session. The challenge involved preserving the integrity of all 37 individual performances within a single capture volume.

For the record attempt, 92 optical motion-capture cameras were deployed, alongside systems for calibration, networking, synchronisation, real-time Unreal visualisation, witness cameras and facial capture. The film’s VFX producer also developed a new motion-capture pipeline and workflow tailored to the project.

Raaka likely to release next year

Directed by Atlee Kumar and produced by Sun Pictures, Raaka stars Allu Arjun in what is reportedly a triple role. The film is being made as a pan-India project, with its makers highlighting the use of advanced VFX and motion-capture technology. A recent behind-the-scenes glimpse of their international pre-production work was released.

Deepika Padukone will headline the film alongside Allu Arjun, while Rashmika Mandanna is reportedly set to appear in a significant role. Earlier referred to as AA22XA6, the project also stars Mrunal Thakur, Janhvi Kapoor and Aishwarya Lekshmi.

Raaka is expected to release in December 2027.

People Media Factory, the production house that is producing the film, took to its social media timelines to make the announcement. It wrote, "#GarividiLakshmi Grand release in theatres on 17th October 2026. #GarividiLakshmionOct17th."

It may be recalled that the makers had released the first look of Anandhi in the film in July last year.

Sources say the film is inspired by the life of Burra Katha artist Garividi Lakshmi and that it will be a heartfelt ode to the rural spirit and musical legacy of the artist. The film, they claim, will be an entertainer that will look to celebrate relationships, and cultural roots.

Set against the colourful backdrop of village life, the film will seek to blend music, humour, and heart-touching moments to deliver a rooted yet thoroughly entertaining experience.

It may be recalled that a few months ago, the makers of the film had released a vibrant folk song titled 'Nala Jilakara Mogga', which was well received. In fact, the song received around four million views on YouTube.

The film promises to capture the essence of Uttar Andhra. Cinematography for the film is by J Aditya and music is by Charan Arjun.

Apart from Kayal Anandhi, who plays the lead, the film will also feature a host of actors including veteran actor Naresh, Raasi, Rag Mayur, Sharanya Pradeep, Ankith Koyya, Meesala Laxman, Kancharapalem Kishore, Sharanya Pradeep and Kushalini.

Popular production house Pen Movies, which is producing the film , took to its social media timelines to share the first look poster of the actor.

The film has triggered huge interest as this will be the first time that Raghava Lawrence will be seen in a mythological film.

The film is being produced by Pen Movies Jayantilal Gada in association with RV Studios and Sri Neeladri Productions.

Sources close to the unit say that the film is being mounted on a grand production scale of ₹150 crore and that the film is being created as a spectacular five-language epic in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada.

Sources said the film was being envisioned as a true visual feast, with massive specially constructed sets, elaborate period-world designs, large-scale action sequences and extensive VFX coming together to create the world of KARNA on an unprecedented canvas.

From majestic kingdoms and ancient battlefields to breathtaking war sequences and larger-than-life environments, the makers, sources claimed, were building an immersive cinematic world that would combine the grandeur of physical sets with cutting-edge visual effects.

Raghava Lawrence playing Karna — a warrior defined by honour, destiny, loyalty and sacrifice, has thrilled his fans.

Sources say that the makers will soon unveil the remaining cast and crew members one by one, with each announcement planned on a grand scale.

The film is slated to release worldwide next year.

The actor is known for his jaw-dropping movie antics which have included scaling Dubai's Burj Khalifa skyscraper for ‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’, and dangling from an aircraft during take off for ‘Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’.

The actor has now revealed that he fell in love with stunts when he was just a toddler. Looking back, he shared that he climbed out onto the roof of his family home to "look at the stars".

The actor recently appeared on the ‘New Heights’ podcast, and said, "I was doing them since I was a little kid. It started out, I was a little kid and I opened the window and I climbed out onto the roof. I’m, like, two-and-a-half or three years old. But I liked to look at the stars. The neighbour called and was like, ‘I think there’s a child on your (roof)’. And my mum was like, 'Oh my goodness'”.

He shared that as a child he liked to climb tall trees on windy days because he liked the feel of it but his exploits left him with a of broken bones.

The actor said, "I did so many things and I didn’t do it well. I’d break bones. I’d end up in the hospital”.

The actor's mother tried to lure her son back indoors and keep him out of trouble by baking him cakes. He said, "My mum never said, 'Don’t do it'. She’d bake a cake and be like, 'It’s really windy, why don’t you come down here? I’ve got some cake for you'”.

Tom also revealed he used to drive cars when he was too small to see over the steering wheel. He shared, “I used to sit on a phone book and race the car out on the streets. I was so small, I had to get the phone book. I didn’t have my licence”.

"The first time I got on an aeroplane, I was about five or six and I’m sitting next to the window. As we’re taking off, I looked at the wing and I thought: 'How cool would it be to be out there?' I don’t know why”, he added.

Ilaiyaraaja had already established film background music as an art form, with several of his scores staying with audiences for decades despite never being officially released. For a generation that grew up with Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music, however, BGMs took on a different kind of familiarity. His collaborations with filmmakers such as Selvaraghavan and Venkat Prabhu produced themes that became instantly recognisable, often with just a few opening notes.

Yuvan’s pulsating beats, soft melodies and melancholic themes became part of the soundtrack of a generation, with many of his BGMs staying with audiences long after the films themselves had faded from memory. That connection was at the heart of Walking Through The Rainbow - A Symphonic Experience, which brought some of Yuvan’s memorable film scores to life with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and Indian Choral Ensemble.

Yuvan began by telling the audience that this would not be like his usual concerts, where he would ask them to “jump with me”. Instead, he wanted everyone to unite through music and enjoy the experience together. The atmosphere reflected that intention. Unlike his regular shows, where audiences often whistle, dance and cheer, hardly anyone moved from their seats. All eyes remained fixed on the stage, with many humming along with the symphony and a few visibly moved to tears.

The concert unfolded in two halves, with a 20-minute break. The first featured Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Mounam Pesiyadhey, Deepavali, Siva Manasula Sakthi, Billa, Chennai 600028, Kadhal Konden and Kattradhu Thamizh. The track list drew from different phases of Yuvan’s filmography, but audiences reacted most strongly when they recognised familiar background scores. Billa and Kadhal Konden were among the major high points, while Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Chennai 600028 also drew loud cheers.

The second half opened with STR’s AAA and Vallavan, followed by Goa and Love Today. During Love Today, Yuvan sang ‘Ennai Vittu Nee Ponalum’. One of the newer selections of the evening, the song connected particularly well with younger listeners, with much of the audience singing along.

An unreleased composition from Raja’s Playlist, which Yuvan performed live for the first time, followed. The concert then moved through Avan Ivan and Nenjam Marappathillai before building towards its finale.

“Only Yuvan can dream up a concert like this and pull it off with such authority. He seemed to have a clear vision behind the whole experience, and the symphony orchestra played a huge part in bringing it to life. Credit to his technical team for delivering the best sound experience,” said audience member Aravind.

“Having grown up with his music, especially the background scores of Kadhal Konden, Pudhupettai and Kattradhu Thamizh, which have found their way into every phase of life, hearing those BGMs presented this way elevated the experience. Yuvan evoked so many emotions through the concert. It was nostalgic and overwhelming. True to the name of the concert, Yuvan held our hands and walked us through the rainbow,” he added.

Yuvan had saved some of the biggest moments for the closing stretch. The opening notes of the Pudhupettai BGM were met with a loud cheer, followed by Mankatha, which took the energy even higher.

For the final act, Yuvan sat at the grand piano for 7G Rainbow Colony. ‘Walking Through the Rainbow’, the title of the concert, is itself a track from the film, making it a fitting choice for the culmination of the evening. But Yuvan chose to end on a happier note. He announced that Mankatha would be played once again, bringing the energy roaring back and finishing the evening on a high.

“Walking Through the Rainbow is not a usual concert. It is a vision born from imagination, passion and a deep love for music. Conceiving it as a fan was special, but directing it and watching it come alive on stage was truly unforgettable. Every moment has been crafted with love and purpose, driven by an immense love for Yuvan sir and the music that has touched so many lives,” said Karthik Srinivas, director of the show Walking Through the Rainbow.

Mahaveer, production director of the show, said, “Today, the way audiences experience music has evolved, and we wanted to bring the focus back to its roots: the emotion, musicianship and experience of listening to music come alive. For us, this show is just the beginning. This is the first step towards taking the experience to a much larger scale and reaching many more people.”

The title look of Nandhan 2 has been released, offering a glimpse into the film's subject. The poster features a black-and-white setting, with the reflection of journalists and camera crews seen on a metal vessel held by a young girl. The title Nandhan 2 appears in red at the centre of the reflection.

Nandhan 2 focuses on another social issue

Following Nandhan (2024), Saravanan is once again focusing on a subject connected to a larger social issue.

Shooting for Nandhan 2 is currently in its final stages, while post-production work is progressing simultaneously.

Further details about the cast, including the lead actors, actresses and supporting artistes, as well as the technical crew, are expected to be announced by the makers in subsequent updates.

Nandhan starred Sasikumar, Balaji Sakthivel

The first Nandhan(2024) starred M Sasikumar as Koozhpaana, Balaji Sakthivel as Koppulingam and Sruthi Periyasamy as Selvi. The film followed Koozhpaana, an oppressed domestic worker who is manipulated into becoming the president of a reserved village panchayat by dominant-caste leader Koppulingam.

The series follows a close-knit neighbourhood that comes together to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of a young woman. As the search progresses, the residents encounter hidden secrets and unexpected truths.

Jeyachandra Hashmi on Octopus

Director Jeyachandra Hashmi said he began writing Octopus during the Covid-19 lockdown, drawing from the experience of living in closed and restricted neighbourhoods. He said the series explores the idea that what appears on the surface may not always reflect the reality underneath. “What we see is rarely what truly exists...this applies to everything around us: humans, relationships, society, and the deep layers within them,” he said.

Hashmi added that the woman's disappearance gradually leads the story into unexpected territory, much like the arms of an octopus.

Archana, Ashwin on Octopus

Archana said the emotional aspects of the suspense story were what attracted her to the series. “My character is not just caught in the middle of a mystery; her journey becomes the thread that connects an entire neighbourhood,” she added.

Ashwin said the strong writing was what attracted him to the project, and "the way the story expands from the world of a couple into the larger dynamics of an entire neighbourhood."

Octopus is directed by Jeyachandra Hashmi and features Ashwin, Archana, Vinoth Kishan, Sidhu Kumaresan and Kalaivani Bhaskar in key roles. Produced by Adithya J Raju and Lisha P Chandran under the Cinemum banner, the seven-episode Tamil ZEE5 Original will stream on ZEE5.

The film was the only Indian entry selected for TIFF's Platform Competition this year where it won the top prize on Sunday. One of TIFF's premier competitive sections, Platform is the festival's auteur-driven competition, dedicated to bold directorial voices and distinctive cinematic storytelling.

From this year, the winner of the Platform Competition receives an automatic qualification for consideration in the International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards.

Set against the backdrop of 1960s Nagaland, "Angh" follows an ageing Konyak village chief and his son, who remain among the last people holding on to their ancestral faith and way of life as their world undergoes profound change. Rio developed the feature from his 2021 short of the same name.

Shot on 16mm and featuring an Indigenous Naga cast alongside

BAFTA winning actor Douglas Henshall, the film explores the intersection of tradition, faith, family, memory and cultural transformation.

"Angh" is produced by Nancy Nisa Beso and Rio. The film is represented internationally & domestically for distribution by Jungle Book Studio, which acquired its international sales rights ahead of its TIFF world premiere.

"It is a very special moment for me and for everyone associated with the film. I am aware that it is rare for a debut film to receive this kind of

recognition, and all I can say is that we made 'Angh' with a lot of love - for the place I come from, for my people and for our culture.

"At the heart of the film is the relationship between a father and son, but it is also about letting go, our relationship with home and the transient nature of life. These are some of the most universal emotions, and they belong to all of us. To see 'Angh' connect with audiences beyond our

own community has been deeply moving," Rio, 31, said in a statement post the film's win.

Beso, the producer of the film, said, "My collaboration with Theja has been one of the longest and most meaningful collaborations of my career. We have been carrying 'Angh' with us for many years from the short film to the feature and through all of it, we held on to the belief that this was a story

we had to tell, and that we had to tell it on our own terms."

Executive producer Gaurav Dhingra said, "When I first saw the rushes of 'Angh', I felt I was looking at something rare, a film born in Nagaland,

made by Indigenous filmmakers, carrying the voice of a community rarely seen on the world's biggest screens on its own terms. To see it win the Platform Competition and earn a direct pathway into the Oscars' International Feature Film category is deeply moving, for 'Angh', for its makers, for Nagaland, for India and for independent cinema.

Dhingra, who has also backed films such as "Peddlers", "Faith Connections", "Stolen" and "Angry Indian Goddesses, said they are proud to connect a deeply rooted story with a global audience.

Marathi film "Gondhal", directed by Santosh Davakhar, is India's official selection for the International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2027.

Initially announced for a September re-release, the film has now been pushed to October 23.

Written and directed by Seenu Ramasamy, Dharmadurai follows a village doctor whose life takes a difficult turn amid family conflicts and personal struggles. The film explores his journey through alcoholism, relationships, loss and eventual redemption.

Vijay Sethupathi played Dr Dharmadurai, while Tamannaah Bhatia, Aishwarya Rajesh and Srushti Dange played Subhashini, Anbuselvi and Stella respectively.

The film's music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, with lyrics by Vairamuthu. The song Endha Pakkam went on to earn Vairamuthu the National Film Award for Best Lyrics at the 64th National Film Awards.

Taking to his X timeline, director Ashwath Marimuthu shared a picture of the film's National Award winning stunt choreographers Anbariv at work on the sets of the film and wrote, "@anbariv masters at work (fire symbol) #dharman."

It may be recalled that the unit of the film had begun its third schedule on September 16 this year.

Taking to his X timeline to share a BTS clip of Rajinikanth and Raashi Khanna shooting for the film, director Ashwath Marimuthu had said, "Back with Thalaivar for Dharman 3rd schedule #superstar @RKFI."

The video clip he posted showed Rajinikanth, seated with his back facing the camera, having a conversation with Raashi Khanna.

It may be recalled that the unit of the film had wrapped up its second schedule of shooting only on September 4 this year.

Raaj Kamal Films International, the production house of veteran actor and parliamentarian Kamal Haasan, had taken to its social media timelines to drop the update with a video clip.

It had said, "Dharman 2nd Schedule Wrapped. Swag Mode: ON." One of the scenes in the video clip released showed Rajinikanth as a senior medical faculty lecturing junior doctors.

For the unaware, the unit had begun the second schedule of the film on August 13 this year. The makers, at the time of announcing the commencement of the second schedule, had said, "The deadly doctor. #Dharman Schedule 2 Begins, and this one's legendary. #KettaPaiyanSir. #SuperstarRajinikanth #KamalHaasan."

The film has triggered huge excitement among fans ever since the makers announced the project. In June this year, the makers had dropped a making video that showed how the team had arrived at Superstar Rajinikanth's look in the film.

Taking to his X timeline, director Ashwath Marimuthu shared a brand new poster of Rajinikanth from the film and wrote, "We heard you !! Ithan hair styleu (This is the hair style)!! Ithan looku (This is the look)! Sexy work @kabilanchelliah."

Earlier, Raaj Kamal Films International, the production house of actor Kamal Haasan which is producing this film, shared a glimpse video and wrote, "THE OG SWAG. #Dharman. The Making of the First Look."

The video featured a shot of the accessories that were kept for Rajini to choose from. It also showed director Aswath showing the exact pose in which he wanted the Superstar to stand. The video also showed Kamal Haasan accompanying Rajinikanth and the two legends of Tamil cinema exchanging pleasantries.

For the unaware, Rajinikanth plays a doctor who takes on criminals in Dharman. Actor, producer and parliamentarian Kamal Haasan, while announcing the title of the film, had said, "Dharmame vellum! (Only Dharma will win) #Dharman #Thalaivar173 #SuperstarRajinikanth @rajinikanth #Mahendran @Dir_Ashwath @anirudhofficial @anbariv @RKFI @turmericmediaTM @magizhmandram."

The title poster of the film that was released on the occasion showed Rajinikanth in an operation theatre in a hospital holding a scalpel, even as he seemed to have one leg placed over the body of a slain rowdy sheeter.

The film is to have music by Anirudh. Cinematography for the film is by Niketh Bommi and editing will be by Pradeep E Raghav. The film is being produced by Kamal Haasan and R Mahendran and co-produced by S Disney.

According to her complaint, her siblings allegedly attempted to encash five cheques worth over Rs 40 crore and it was withheld after the bank authorities contacted Radha.

Radha, who became a silver screen sensation since her first movie, 'Alaigal Oivathillai' (1981),  stated in her complaint that she shuttled between Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kerala and used to keep signed blank cheques in her house for emergency business transactions.

Radha alleged that Ambika, known for her roles in Tamil movies since she acted in Tamil movie 'Andha 7 Naatkal' (1981), had access to her house in Valasaravakkam. Radha said she had received a message from her bank on September 17 informing her that the old cheques had been presented for encashment, after which she asked the bank to halt the payment.

She said she had not issued them to Ambika towards any debt or financial liability and claimed that there had been no monetary transaction between them.

Radha said she believes that the cheques were deposited by her brother in Ambika's account.

The glimpse comes days after the makers unveiled the characters played by Suraj Venjaramoodu and SJ Suryah. Suraj plays Dileep, while Suryah has been introduced as Bodhi Kalpak. 

Vidya’s casting marks her return to Tamil cinema after a seven-year gap. Her last Tamil appearance was a cameo in Ajith Kumar’s Nerkonda Paarvai, released in 2019. 

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 features Rajinikanth alongside Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Yogi Babu, Shivarajkumar and Jaffer Sadiq, with Vijay Sethupathi, Anna Rajan, Hakkim Shah, among the new additions. 

Produced by Sun Pictures, the film has music by Anirudh Ravichander and is scheduled to release worldwide on October 15. 

The actor shared a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot ahead of the film’s September 25 release. In the clip, the team is seen scouting the location and discussing the risks involved in executing the sequence. Ashok captioned the video, “70 feet. No shortcuts. No compromise. My love for cinema. My commitment to the craft. My promise to my audience.” 

Director R Kaarthikeyan said the free dive was part of the screenplay from the writing stage. “Knowing Ashok, if something needs to be done for a film, he is always game for it,” he said.

The makers took precautions before filming the sequence. A team of scuba divers inspected the waterbody, while Ashok underwent training for the dive in a swimming pool. The filming location reportedly had a depth of up to around 150 feet.

Speaking about the stunt, Ashok said he was willing to go to any lengths to execute it correctly, adding that he believed the sequence was necessary for the film and needed to look real for audiences.

Ashok’s sister and co-producer Abinaya Selvam and co-star Preity Mukhundhan are also seen expressing concern over the actor’s safety. Preity said she was proud of Ashok for taking on the daring sequence.Anbil Avan, directed by R Kaarthikeyan and starring Ashok Selvan and Preity Mukhundhan.

Shanthi is survived by her siblings — film producer Ramkumar, actor Prabhu and sister Thenmozhi. She was the firstborn of the late thespian and his wife Kamala Ganesan.

Shanthi breathed her last in the city after experiencing health-related complications over the past few days, family sources said.

Though she largely stayed out of the limelight compared to her brothers, Shanthi shared a deep connection to Tamil cinema history.

Her father, who also owned a cinema theatre, named it after her—Shanti Theatre—in the 1960s, and it became a popular landmark on the arterial Anna Salai. Shanti Theatre was demolished years ago, and the property was redeveloped into an office complex.

She also made her mark in the industry behind the scenes, notably producing her father’s 1974 blockbuster film ‘Thangapathakkam’.

The character introduction video opens with Suraj Venjaramoodu’s voiceover introducing Suryah as Bodhi Kalpak. 

Suryah is among the new additions to the Jailer franchise. The sequel also features Suraj Venjaramoodu, who was introduced as Dileep, a mysterious gangster, in a character teaser released earlier. 

Alongside Rajinikanth, the returning cast includes Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Mirnaa, Yogi Babu and Jaffer Sadiq. The new additions include Vijay Sethupathi, among others. 

Nelson has written and directed Jailer 2, with Kalanithi Maran producing it under Sun Pictures. Anirudh Ravichander returns as the composer.Jailer 2 is scheduled to release worldwide on October 15.
