CHENNAI: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan on Friday said he wanted to conduct Jallikattu in Chennai and said efforts were on to secure permission for the same.

After hosting a feast for his party cadres who took part in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi along with him, he said that the aim was to ensure the city-dwellers get a glimpse of the sport's glory.

Haasan said that his party workers are taking steps to get the requisite permission from the authorities concerned. When asked why there was a need to conduct a rural sport like Jallikattu in the state capital, Haasan said that people may have forgotten the protest that happened in the name of Jallikattu in Chennai's Marina Beach but he hasn't.

The actor was referring to the massive protest in 2017 by the public gathered on the Marina beach to protest against the Supreme Court ban on Jallikattu.

Actor-politician said that the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra is a campaign that was beyond politics and stated there was a duty to 'reclaim' the country's "lost honour". Haasan had joined Gandhi in Delhi last month in the latter's pan-India foot march that started from Tamil Nadu in September last.
