VELLORE: Vellore collector Kumaravel Pandian was taken aback when a mother of three fell at his feet with tears in the collector’s office on Thursday seeking his help to prevent her husband from being detained under the Goondas Act. Kumaravel Pandian was walking back to the main block from the GDP hall in the collector’s office when a woman with three children waiting there suddenly fell at his feet. The collector consoled the woman and sought details. The woman identified herself as Auljothi (35) wife of Srinivasan, a daily wage earner of Saduperi. According to her, her husband was taken away by the Bagayam police some days ago on the charge of distilling arrack and he was about to be detained under the Goondas Act. Stating that her two daughters were intellectually challenged she said she could not sustain her family without her husband and pleaded with the collector to prevent her husband from being detained under the Goondas Act.
