Min Siva V Meyyanathan promises proper crop damage compensation

TIRUCHY: Agriculture department officials have been deputed to assess the crop damage and farmers would be disbursed with proper compensation for the loss, said minister Siva V Meyyanathan in Mayiladuthurai on Thursday.

After inspecting flood-hit areas and 9 relief camps functioning in the district, the minister said that around 4,000 people were served with food in the relief camps, while steps have been initiated to feed the cattle.

The government is concerned about the people, particularly farmers, hence officials have been quickly deputed to assess the crop damage due to the rain and floods for disbursing compensation.

Referring to the demands of residents of Nathalpadugai and Muthalaimedu Thittu for a cyclone relief centre, the minister said a fund of Rs 3 crore each has been requested from the Chief Minister and soon the works for the centres would commence.

Similarly, Rs 47 core has been sought to strengthen riverbanks in Alakudi area.

Steps have been initiated to repair the shutter on the southern bank of the Kollidam, he informed.
