CHENNAI: The Madras High Court directed the state government to return within two weeks the original certificates of doctors who have completed PG medical degree and PG diploma courses and were not allotted orders to serve in the government medical facilities for two years as per the bond executed at the time of admissions to PG courses.

“There shall be a direction to the respondents in all these writ petitions to consider the request made by each of the petitioners about the returning of original certificates which are held by the respondents as they have been given by the respective petitioners at the time they joined in the respective PG Degree courses or PG Diploma courses and return those certificates,” Justice R Suresh Kumar ruled.

The judge passed the orders on disposing of a batch of writ petitions filed by doctors who have completed PG degree and PG diploma courses in government institutions from 2018 to 2020.

The petitioners submitted that though they have completed the course by May 2020, the government did not provide any offer letters to work in the government hospitals as per the bond conditions.

Recording the submissions the judge ordered the government to return the original certificates who have completed two years after finishing their PG courses.

“If any one of the petitioners has not completed the two years bond period as of now, it is open to the respondents to utilise the service of such candidate alone for the remaining period, “ the judge noted.

Justice R Suresh Kumar further observed that if any candidate failed to respond to the offer despite the order given to them, they are ineligible to get back the certificates.
