Stalin: Governor thinks EPS won’t question him on med bill, but DMK will

DMK president MK Stalin on Saturday said that Governor Banwarilal Purohit was negligent on the 7.5% government school students’ reservation bill issue because he believes that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami would not question him and the AIADMK regime would give up if he delays his assent to the bill.

Leading the party’s protest in front of Raj Bhavan against the delay in the bill’s assent, Stalin described NEET as an “altar of sacrifice” and a “corporate scheme” which only makes students spend lakhs on coaching centres, and said, “He (Governor) is negligent because he believes that Edappadi will not question him.”

Recalling the state-wide tours the Governor had undertaken after assuming office at Raj Bhavan, the DMK president said, “Our Governor is very active. He undertook a state-wide tour as soon as he took charge and travelled so extensively that one wondered if he or EPS was the CM. Why does such an active Governor need so long to decide on the reservation?”

Reasoning that he wrote to the Governor on the issue to prevent it from being shelved like the earlier cabinet resolution seeking the release of Rajiv murder case convicts, Stalin wondered why the Governor should explore legal angles, and that too for four weeks, when the Bill was passed based on the recommendation of a one-judge committee. Asserting that at least 300 government school students would get an opportunity to pursue medical education, Stalin said, “What kind of injustice would that be? How can we remain idle when such an injustice unfolds in our midst? AIADMK can be idle, but DMK will not.”

Taking exception to the CM’s accusation that DMK was politicising the issue, Stalin said, “Will we cook avial instead of politicizing? If the efforts made by DMK to secure social justice is politics, we wholeheartedly admit that we are politicising.”
