Robbers take away safe to farm and flee with jewels and cash in Cuddalore

In a rarest of rare theft incidents, miscreants unable to break open an almirah, lifted it from the house and moved it to a secluded place in a field and then took away the jewels and cash after breaking it in Cuddalore district on Monday.

Alambadi village near Thittakudi in Cuddalore witnessed a series of thefts on Sunday where miscreants entered the houses of Mani (62) and his neighbour Ramkumar (40) and lifted 109 sovereign jewels, cash of Rs 7 lakh and other valuables.

Sources said, Mani, a farmer was preparing for the wedding of his son who had returned from Singapore last month and so he had kept the jewels and cash in a almirah, the miscreants cut open a window, entered the house and successfully robbed 72 sovereign and cash of Rs 6 lakh.

Likewise, they entered his neighbour Ramkumar’s house and attempted to open the almirah.

But they could not succeed in breaking it. So they lifted the whole almirah and carried it away to a field away from the house and took their sweet time to crack it open.

The miscreants netted 37 sovereigns of jewels and Rs 1.27 lakh in the risky attempt from the almirah.

On Monday morning, both the families were shocked to find their valuables looted and Ramkumar was stunned by the loss of a whole bureau going missing. A police team led by DSP (Thittakudi)Venkatesan rushed to the spot on information and conducted an inquiry. Police located the almirah belonging to Ramkumar in a field near the house.

The miscreants had taken away only the gold and cash and left other articles in it intact. Further investigations are on.
