2,000 to get benefits at Sivanthi Aditanar memorial inauguration
Thoothukudi district administration is gearing up to host the inaugural ceremony of the Manimandapam, built in honour of the late Dr B Sivanthi Aditanar, at Veerapandiyanpattinam village in Tiruchendur.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is scheduled to inaugurate the memorial on February 22 at a programme to be organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations,sources said.
Collector Sandeep Nanduri, while addressing the mediapersons on Monday, said the Chief Minister, during his schedule at Tiruchendur, would extend welfare assistance to around 2,000 beneficiaries through various schemes. During the programme, the Chief Minister would also list out a series of new infrastructure development projects.
Further, the Collector said, under the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ initiative by the Centre, as many as 318 card holders had been benefitted from this scheme after buying essential commodities from various fair price shops.
Under the initiative, the eligible beneficiaries could procure their entitled foodgrains under the National Food Security Act from a ration shop from any partof the country.
Earlier, two districts, including Thoothukudi and its neighbouring Tirunelveli, were selected to introduce this scheme on a pilot basis. Moreover, the Collector said based on a Government Order issued for the conduct of jallikattu in Srivaikuntam, a meeting would be convened to form a committee and hold consultations with officials from various departments.
Ahead of the ‘Masi’ festival at Subramaniya Swamy temple in Tiruchendur, necessary arrangements were being done by the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments to facilitate devotees, the Collector said.
