The shop located near the bus stop at Thenimalai was closed a few months ago following stiff opposition from residents.

However, officials arrived at the shop on Thursday to reopen it. When information spread about the attempt to reopen the shop, residents, mostly women, gathered at the spot and expressed their opposition to the officials.

They also shouted slogans and said they would not allow the shop to be reopened under any circumstance.

As efforts to pacify the women proved futile, officials were forced to leave the spot. The outlet remains closed.
