TIRUCHY: An altercation erupted between the DMK and the AIADMK members in the Thanjavur Corporation Council meeting on Wednesday when the AIADMK demanded to pass a resolution to thank Edappadi K Palaniswami for his recent announcement of Kula Vilakku Thittam for women in his manifesto.
The Corporation meeting commenced in Thanjavur, chaired by the mayor Shan Ramanathan, and the meeting thanked the Chief Minister for announcing the pension scheme for the government employees, which was their demand for over 20 years.
Subsequently, the AIADMK member Kannukkiniyar asked the council to pass a resolution to thank the Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami for his announcement of Kula Vilakku thittam, which would provide Rs 2,000 per month to the women.
The DMK members opposed it. The AIADMK members joined Kannukkiniyar, prompting a heated argument between the members of both parties.
Then, the AIADMK floor leader Manikandan said that the party would form the government after the Assembly polls, and the scheme would benefit the DMK women also. This triggered another round of altercation. Soon, the DMK women members raised slogans against the AIADMK, and all the members moved towards the mayor.
Sensing the situation, the mayor declared all 126 resolutions passed and announced the end of the council session.
