At a meeting held at DMK youth wing headquarters ‘Anbagam’ recently, Bharathi described former chief minister M Karunanidhi’s effort to appoint a Dalit as a High Court judge to ‘alms’ given by the Dravidian movement.

MNM’s Adi Dravidar Welfare Wing secretary Poovai A Jagadishkumar said that the oppressed people have risen due to the rights won by the country’s first union law minister and chairman of the Constitutional drafting committee BR Ambedkar. “Not only the oppressed people, he was a guide for the backward communities that were caught in the Varnashramam. Even the Dravidian parties that ruled the state for 50 years could not thwart it even if they had wished too,” he said in a statement.

Terming Bharathi’s remark as feudal mindset, he said that it was not enough to express regret. Pointing to the VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan’s silence, he said that the public not only Dalit should realise their true character. He also hit out at Left parties which had taken ‘donation’ from the DMK.

On Monday, Bharathi has expressed regret for his disparaging remarks against Dalits and media persons after his speech went viral on social media.
