SIVAGANGA: A two-layered brick structure has been unearthed during the 11th phase of excavation underway at Keeladi.

The structure was found at a depth of about 3.5 feet in one of the trenches, which appeared to have been built using bricks of varying sizes.

A perforated roof tile was also found near the structure.

Its exact purpose will be known only after full exposure, and it is likely part of a larger construction.

The current phase of excavation began on March 18 at a one-and-a-half acre site owned by Gajendran, where eight trenches have been planned.

At present, work is under way in two opposite trenches.

In another trench, more than five terracotta bowls were found clustered together at a depth of about 2.5 feet. Fragments of small terracotta pots were also found nearby.

Damaged bricks and pottery fragments have also been unearthed from the trenches.
