Kanniyakumari bypoll to be held within February 2021: EC

The CEO of State Election Commission, Sathyabrata Sahoo has announced that the bypoll for the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency will be held before February 2021.

The Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency which fell vacant after the death of Tamil Nadu Congress working president H. Vasanthakumar, will face its bypoll before February 2021, CEO of the State Election Commission said.

Sahoo who is currently engaged in expediting the preparation of updated voter list in the State, for the upcoming election, also briefed that draft of voters list will be published on November 16 and the voters will have time till December 15 to suggest any correction with special camps dedicated to collecting applications to inform changes in voter details.

While the final version of the updated voters' list will be published on January 20, 2021, as announced by the Election Commission of India.

Satyabarta Sahoo also said that for the upcoming elections in TamilNadu, the VVPATs and EVMs are in place and measures are taken for postal voting for voters who are aged above 80, as they constitute nearly  8% of the voter base in the State.
