A circular, which was orally circulated by the Higher Education Department, also said that pending practical exams in engineering and polytechnic colleges should be completed before the Pongal holiday so that students could visit their native.

The Higher Education minister K Ponmudi had already announced that the semester exams for the students studying in HEIs had been indefinitely postponed due to the rapid spread of coronavirus cases in the State.

As the School Education Department was determined to conduct board exams for Class 10 and Class 12, the school will remain open and physical classes will be conducted for tenth, eleventh and twelfth standard students by strictly following all the Covid related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

A senior official from the School Education Department said the common revision exams for both Class 10 and Class 12 will be conducted in the third week of January as per the schedule.

"The government is closely monitoring the pandemic situation by taking the suggestions from health experts", he said adding the vaccination drive for the age group between 15 and 18 would be completed in a few days with massive vaccination camps conducted in all the schools," he said.

With regard to releasing the board exam schedule for Class 10 and Class 12, the official pointed out that in the wake of the third wave of coronavirus in the State, the authorities could not decide the dates immediately. "However, the exam schedule and notification will be released well before the exams depending on the pandemic situation," he added.
