Fee determination committee formulates fee structure

After complaints about excess fees charged by private schools in the State, the Tamil Nadu Private Schools Fees Determination Committee has come out with the fees structure for the year 2019 and 2020-2021.

In a government order, the committee instructed all district education officers to take a copy of the fees structure list and visit each and every private schools in their respective areas for verification.


The Tamil Nadu Schools (Regulation of Collection of Fees) Act, has been enacted to regulate the collection of fees and to curtail excess fees collection and donation by the private self-financing schools.


A senior official from the School Education Department said the process of fixing fee for nearly 10,200 schools was over.


“The fees structure has been sent in e-mail to all the schools,” he said. “Action will be taken against the schools, which collected excess money than the prescribed format,” he said.


Further, he said that the fee committee would be actively involved in solving and as well as disposing off petitions with regard to collection of excess fees.


The Committee also set up a members comprising of education officers in disposing off petitions with regard to collection of excess fees.


As per the recent High Court order, the fees has been fixed to over 10,000 schools.
