Andavan Ashramam Jeer passes away

Sri Ranga Ramanuja Maha Desikan (82), the Jeer of Srimad Andavan Ashramam, died of cardiac arrest on Monday at a hospital in Chennai.

The Jeer was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathing difficulty. He died around 2 pm. He was not keeping good health for the last two months. 

His mortal remains would be brought to Srirangam on Monday evening and kept at the Andavan Ashramam until Tuesday morning to enable the public to pay their homage. 

Mutt sources said the funeral has been planned at the Periashramam along the Kollidam river banks around 9 am. 

He was born on May 20, 1935 and became qualified in the Vedas and Divya Prabhandha Adhyayanams at a young age. He studied at the Kakumaani charity patasala in Chennai. 

CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, in his message, said he was distraught to learn about the death of the Jeer. “He carried out several social welfare activities alongside his spiritual work. I extend my hearty condolences to the members of the Ashramam and his disciples,” he said.
