“We have written to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT - In) through the Cyber Cell to block such releases of pirated movies online,” said Amreesh Poojari, Additional Director General of Police (Crime).

CERT-In, functioning under the Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology, is the nodal agency that deals with cyber security threats.

Poojari also noted that the 34 sites include the ‘who is who’ of online sites, indulging in the release of pirated versions of new Tamil movies.

“As the servers for these sites are based overseas, we will not be able to pull it down but we think we can block them on Indian gateways, with the help of CERT- In,” the officer said.
