CHENNAI: A 34-year-old woman, who slipped into the narrow gap between a train and the platform, was rescued by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable at Chengalpattu station on Saturday morning.

Pramila, wife of Sabapathi from Pombur village near Vanur in Villupuram, had arrived in Chengalpattu with her two sons to visit relatives. On Saturday morning, she reached Chengalpattu station to return home and was waiting on Platform 6 to board the Tambaram–Villupuram Express.

After the train arrived and prepared to depart, Pramila helped her children board first. As she attempted to get onto the train, it suddenly began moving. She lost her balance and slipped, falling into the narrow gap between the platform and the moving train.

Passengers were shocked and her children, already inside the train, cried out for help. Acting immediately, constable Dayanidhi blew his whistle and signalled the loco pilot to stop the train.

The driver responded quickly, bringing the train to a halt and preventing Pramila from being pulled under the wheels. She escaped a fatal accident by a narrow margin.
