The woman has been identified Surya Devi from Tiruchy and she has been staying in Virugambakkam for the past few months.

While her speech against Tamilisai was a live video on Facebook, she later posted another video abusing Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and H Raja. As both her speeches went viral, representatives of BJP Chennai wing filed a petition at City Police Commissionerate seeking action against the woman in the video.

The petition was forwarded to the cyber-crime wing of CCB and a case was registered. During the investigation, police found out that Surya Devi was staying at a hostel in Virugambakkam. She has been booked under Sections 294 (b) (reciting obscene words), 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 505(1)(b) (to cause, fear or alarm to the public) of IPC. She was produced before Allikulam Magistrate and lodged in Puzhal prison.

Sources said the woman had already made four such videos and circulated on the social media. However, since there were no complaints, police did not act.
