Six cows electrocuted after overhead electric cable snapped and fell

Police said at that time an overhead electric cable snapped and fell directly on the cows and soon all six animals were electrocuted and died on the spot. The onlookers informed the police and the electricity board and the power was turned off.

CHENNAI: Six cows were electrocuted after an overhead electric cable snapped and fell on them in the farmland near Vandalur on Tuesday.

The cows belonged to Govindasamy, Balaji and Mahendran of Manimangalam near Vandalur. On Tuesday morning the three of them left the cows for grazing in the field at the place where they would usually let the cows.

Police said at that time an overhead electric cable snapped and fell directly on the cows and soon all six animals were electrocuted and died on the spot. The onlookers informed the police and the electricity board and the power was turned off.

Later the Manimangalam police team isited the spot and sent the carcass of cows for autopsy to the Veterinary hospital in Manimangalam.

The villagers said that most of the overhead electric cables are in bad shape in the locality and even after many requests the officials have not taken any steps to replace them.

The Manimangalam police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
