Police said, the security guard, Rajendran (54), was working with Radiant Cash Management, an agency which collects cash from clients in several areas.  He was returning to his office along with one Mohan in a car with cash collections to the tune of Rs 40 lakh.

The car was driven by Vinod Kumar.  Around 4 pm on Monday evening, they stopped the car at a wine shop at Senthil Nagar in Kolathur to purchase some liquor.  While Mohan walked into the shop, Vinod and Rajendran waited inside the car, when three men, one wearing a helmet and the other two covering their faces with handkerchiefs, tried to attack them with sickles.

After Vinod, fearing for his life, took to his heels, the gang tried to snatch the cash from Rajendran.  When he resisted, they sprayed chilli powder on his face and attacked him inflicting serious cut injuries.  As the locals rushed towards the car, the gang fled the scene. Rajendran was subsequently rushed to Government Stanley Hospital.
