Roll back fuel price hike: Jayalalithaa

Terming the fuel price hike as unjustified, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday urged the Centre to roll back the hike in prices of petrol and diesel as it would lead to increase in freight charges, besides affecting the poor and the middle class.

In a statement here, she said the hike in prices would also result in increase in prices of essential commodities affecting the common man.

"Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) effecting such a hike citing depreciation of the Indian rupee against US Dollar is unjustified," she added.

"Vehicles transporting goods run on diesel. The hike in diesel price will result in prices of goods  going up. Due to this, the lower and middle classes will be affected," she said.

The petrol price hike would impact the motorists who hail from the middle class. The US dollar-Indian rupee value will lead to fluctuations in the value of the Indian currency.
