CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday inaugurated the renovated eco park at Navalur in Chengalpattu district, a prominent Information Technology hub of the State.
The park has been developed at a cost of Rs 30 crore and features several amenities, including an environmental knowledge centre, a unique play area for children, an open-air gym, a food court, and designated zones for bird watching.
The eco park has been created as part of the Navalur lake restoration project. In a statement, the government said the lake spans 33.43 acres, is desilted, its embankments strengthened, and the water body comprehensively renovated.
When the Navalur lake had dried up earlier, the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) undertook the restoration work as part of its environmental rejuvenation initiatives.
The park is located within the Siruseri SIPCOT campus, which spans 782.51 acres. Established in 2002, the campus has attracted investments worth about Rs 14,000 crore and has generated employment for nearly one lakh people, the government said. In a post on X, the Chief Minister appealed to the public to help maintain the waterbody.
Officials said the newly inaugurated environment park would benefit IT employees working in the Siruseri corridor as well as the general public, providing a recreational space while promoting environmental awareness.
Minister TM Anbarasan, Chief Secretary N Muruganandam, and Industries Secretary V Arun Roy were among those present at the inauguration.
